I'm trying to piece together my offseason and what it would look like. What would the overall contract of Manning look like? And what would the cap hit be for this season? I'm trying to fit in Reggie Wayne, Anthony Collins, Evan Mathis and Aubrayo Franklin, can that realistically be done while still having enough for draft picks?

Thoughts on what Manning's gonna be asking?

Probably 3 years/$45 million....maybe $30 million guaranteed and lots of bonus money for him depending on wins/yardage/completions/attempts. I don't think Peyton really plays that much for money anymore. He gets a ton of money from endorsements, and he isn't an a-hole like Brees who feels he has to be the highest paid QB in the league.

I hope you're right and he wants to be in Miami!!!

Shefter, La Canfora and Clayton all seem to feel Miami is at the top of the list. I know Daniel Snyder loves to throw around money, though, and he is probably the one guy who could convince him to go play for the Skins, but then he has to go up against Eli twice a year. I don't know why anyone would want to go play for KC or Seattle, like Billick was hinting about. I think it is either the Skins or Us. I also can't see him playing for Rex Ryan in NYC.....that locker room sucks right now with Holmes, Sanchez and the rest of the Jests.

If a contract gets done how much money do you think we'd have available to sign other free agents and draft picks?

Half (or more) would probably be gone unless we start to restructure. So if we are at 15, at least 7.5 or less.

Thing is, I see whom ever doesn't get Manning to almost pay the same for Flynn. Someone will freak that their options are Flynn or Henne and that'll make Flynn's price skyrocket.

So, if we go for Manning we'd better get him or immediately go after Flynn because if Manning is signed and Flynn is still on the market, we may very well end up over paying for Flynn.

I see a 4 year Contract since his last deal was going to end in 2015. I dont see why it would shorten now that he has moved teams.

4 years 15 million a year would be my guess.

Then would we need to put 5 mil towards draft picks roughly? If so that would leave us with really only Reggie Wayne more than likely after bringing on Manning's contract....

I really hope we go pretty standard with the contract and no fancy back loading. I just dont want to take a huge cap hit later on if he is injured. Problem is he will probably demand alot of bonus money. If we sign Peyton I dont see us having much money left for anything else unless he signs a sweetheart deal and why would he give us a discount when many teams will be bidding. I think its far from a given that he will sign with us.

KC has tons of cap room, like 50 million
Wash has like 40 million
Sea has like 31 million
SF 35 million

While we are sitting with about 13 million. Oakland has no chance they are in cap hell and The Jets have about 2 million.

This includes the carryover from last year and would suggest we are at a pretty big disadvantage in trying to get Manning at least capwise

the "home town" discount everyone is hoping for is going to be 19 mill a year and some change.

everyone else WILL, and i repeat, WILL be paying 20 mil a year. he is not signing for major insentives or 7 mill a year.

signing manning to me is BAD mistake for the finz right now. i think he can still play at a winning, pro bowl level for the next 2-3-years but this is what that 2-3 years will look like:

1. no factor in free agency. 3rd string depth and bargain bin cast offs. peytons salry kills f/a.

2. BIG risk to mannings health as we have a HORRID o-line. matt moore is FAR more athletic than manning and he ran for his life on almost every play. he WILL be taking sacks in miami, more than he ever has and it will take a toll on his mind and body and this thing could be over before its gets started stunting the teams growth and sticking us with some serious dead cash weight.

3. speaking of team growth stunting, peyton has already said he wants his same act in miami basically running and designing the plays and play calls. he wants the band back together. more money. we have a new coach coming in with a history of guru-sh west coast offense and its designs. this imediatly cuts our new coach off at the knees being peytons lacky and costing him authority and respect in the locker room. it would HAVE TO take a negative effect on philbins psyc being a new head coach and being second fiddle to his qb. not the way to start out a new regime and plan a future. it stunts the future.

4. we are NOT qb away from the show. FAR from it. our o-line is in trouble. i firmly believe jake long is starting to break down. i think there is a BIG chance he is in and out of the line up and may have a short career. it happens. cary should have retired 3 years ago. we need a starting rt and a another guard. all these folks clamoring about guys on the bench have to remember, they havnt been able to beat out the bums we have on the line now. columbo ws protected by sparano but a couple guys to take that spot couldnt beat out the guys before columbo. so not only do we need a couple of new guards and a rt, we could use some better depth!! and this is all IF big jake can stay healthy. if not, disaster for peyton. pouncy is a star in the making and on his way to being the leauges elite center. but, peyton wants the band back together and his most vocal player has been for jeff saturday who will NOT be coming in as a guard. so, they would have to stunt pouncys growth and slide him to guard. not a good move for the future. and saturday isnt coming for cheap either as he knows he IS a package deal with peyton. he knows peyton, his cadence and all the line calls for all the plays peyton likes to run. more money.......

DEFENSE, we absolutely need a another pass rusher to pair with cam. we need another REAL cb to pair with vontae and finally get sean smith on the bench wher he belongs. we need 2, yes, i said 2 safeties. all this yeremiah bell stuff is rediculous. probably the most overrated player on this team. he cant cover, isnt fast. his calling card is making a huge hit once every 4 games. but, like many players, the fans have exacted untouchable on him. we are switching up this defense. new coach, new terminology, new schemes. players will be changing around with misi now being experimented at as ilb. solei will be gone and MISSED! 3-4, 4-3, he is a load and is coming into his own. now a dt/nt will be needed. stark was a failure inside, merling is nothing and never will be and is a knuckle head who can implode any minute.

5. take all this above and now throw in the fact that players will have to be released to fit peyton and saturday and 90% reggie wayne is on this ticket and we will have to replace players we have, get new ones, AND PAY all this money to peyton, saturday and wayne. we dont have the cap and we dont have the roster to to get rid of many players. the only players we have that would make any difference in cap room to restructure are few. real few. not enough. players will be GONE to fit all the manning pieces in. and again, we are NOT a qb away from going to the show. we ned more than a qb and need to ADD GOOD PLAYERS, not get rid of any.

SO, what does a manning signing look like? a stunted groth to a young team and staff. strangled financially. no factor in free agency for at least 3 years. a pocket statue qb who will be forced regularly out of the pocket with an iffy shoulder and fans and coaches holding their breath everytime a defender gets near him. NONE of it looks good. not worth the big yrds and plays manning will make which wouldnt be enough because we cant afford players. thats what it looks like.

and i dont think philbin would have signed up for this and i dont think the brass is ready to bank their iffy reputations and the teams future on such a HUGE gamble.

RG3 trade is much more a better scenerio for this team. we get a young guy to grow with the young team. he plays FOR the coaching staff and learns their offense, not the other way around. we lose some pics, but, we would still have some AND we will be able to get some players in free agency. if the finz brass is dead set on big name qb as the off season move, a trade for rg3 makes the most sense and is a MUCH better move for the teams future.

a peyton manning contract looks BAD all the way around. but, being said, now that manning is in play, if the rams have ANY interest in trading that pic, they just got some real competition for one of your most likely and desperate trade partners. you may see the rams on the phone and talking big right away if their not on the phone with them now. if miami signs manning, no trade out with them. only 2 players that teams were interested at all in moving up that far was for one either of the two qb's. luck is off the table and all thats left is rg3. they dont want to be stuck desperately wanting out of the # 2 spot and only one team [redskins] left to deal with as cleveland has said they are not throwing in their second # 1 pic and the rams want to stay in the top 10. if miami wants rg3, and the colts want more value for the 2nd pic, it has to be done now and miami is in a good spot to get ta deal done with having the manning card to play.

i think it will be an incentive based contract, i am pretty sure he wants to be flexible since, i am pretty sure reggie wayne will follow him down, and they will need to get a couple more pieces to complete the team, and i think mathis signed with the colts already

Cap wise there are plenty of things we can do if need be. Releasing Bell would save $6+ mill. That would put us around $20 million. Add into the fact that Marshall, who has been pleading this offseason for a franchise qb, is probably very willing to restructure if it makes room for Manning and we would be just as able as any team to sign Manning if it was about the money. Which I don't think it really is. I think Manning wants to win another championship and the team that gives him the best chance is where he will go. Miami is def top three on that list with Houston and San Fran. Add in the fact his wife loves Miami (happy wife, happy life) and they already have a home there I would definitely say Miami has the edge in signing him.
