My point was, they love the game so much and are such competitors I think they would do it for free if it weren't for the principal of making sure you are paid what you are worth. Also, I sense Marino was beginning to feel the punishment on Monday mornings more and more.
Who knows who else, or what else, influenced his decision to retire when he did? When he played, it was always clear he put everything he had into it, and demanded the same from every other player.
And that is the kind of QB we need here. More than any other qualities, IMO.
