You've read Huizenga when he declared that the Phins wouldn't play any holdouts. At this time, it looks like Ginn will be one, at least for a day or two. My question to you is: if you were the team owner and had made the same statement that Huizenga did, what would you do?

I'd have Cam and Randy in my office right now asking them why they not only drafted primarily a returner at #9, but why they picked a guy with an agent known for holding out his clients.

I don't think Ginn is really a major part of the Phin's plans in 2007....other than mainly running back kicks/punts. Hopefully he will be in camp, but if not I don't see it as being a major problem given that we have at least 3 guys ahead of him at the WR spot. I don't think he needs to know the playbook that well to run back kicks.

The agent works for Ginn, so Ginn is a little bit at fault also. All Ginn has to do is tell the agent get the deal done or your fired.

This vitriol against Ginn is pure bull****. How many 1st rounders have signed so far, 5? Huizinga created this situation himself. He made a threat that no one in his right mind would think he would keep, and Neil Cornrich is doing the only responsible thing he could do - calling Huizenga's bluff to land his client a better deal. Watch this deal get done tomorrow. Maybe even just a few hours before midnight. If not, and Ginn becomes the 3rd Dolphins 1st rounder in a row to be among the last to sign, then when the hell do people start pointing the finger at the FO instead of whoever we drafted that year. It's not exactly like we've been drafting low character guys.

With all due respect, this is a nonsensical suggestion.

Football is a business, first and foremost. Every player, every owner, and every coach knows it.

Every year some player holds out. Its the nature of the beast in the NFL. There is nothing the team can do about it.

There is only one time (maybe two) when a player has any leverage as to his finances. It when he is drafted and when/if he becomes and UFA (which most players don't achieve UFA status).

If a player "settles" during either one of these negotiating period, he is being irresponsible.

At some point in the future, when the team can save money with a younger/cheaper player, they'll cut the player with no second thoughts.

The only reason we are discussing this is because Wayne Huizenga is undisciplined and immature vis a vis his NFL team. He talks and acts without thinking things through. Thats evident by his statements concerning rookies and his actions hiring/(not) firing coaches.

He may be the worst owner in the NFL.

Ginn will sign a contract. Ginn will play this season. There will be no action taking by the team to punish Ginn. And their shouldn't be.

His punishment is that he is going to fall behind each day hes not practicing. I am sure he and his agent are weighing those prospects and they will factor in to his decision.

We should really just focus on the players that are in camp and know for sure that Ginn will be there within a week or ten days. That is nearly a certainty.

Maybe using Ginn to send a message wouldn't be so bad after all. You not only send the message, but you also give him more than ample time to recover from his injury and develop much needed receiving skills. And since he was projected to be mostly a return man and not really an important cog in the team yet, you can find someone else to fill that role who's healthy for a year and then have Ginn become a return man the next season 100%.

Calling Huizenga's bluff could cost his client 10-15 million dollars if Huizenga really doesn't bluff and Ginn has to re-enter the draft. That's hardly responsible. When you get your first job out of college you also don't show up your boss as your first order of business. Beck had the presence of mind and respect to take Wayne seriously and get a contract done. Ginn instead is haggling over a few minor escalator clauses and pissing off Wayne and the fanbase.

Ted certainly isn't the only first rounder who hasn't signed a contract yet. Last I heard there was just a few on them in the top 20. His agent is probably using that as the big reason to wait. He wants to make sure he is "slotted" in between the #8 guy and the #10 guy ... with guaranteed money and escalators and all that. Who knows? Cam did say he was very close at the press conference today though. Maybe he'll sign based on what the #4 guy did with his contract.

The Raiders fans are the ones who are going to be shafted if JaMarcus Russell holds out. They don't have any decent QBs on the roster as far as I know. If he misses the whole camp, their season looks pretty bleak.

Get him signed in time or sit his arse.

There is no way the Dolphins sit Ginn if he holds out. I believe it is an empty threat. We are trying to improve this offense and we need the speed that Ginn provides. Wayne is trying to light a fire IMO.

Also we need him to be here when the full on camp starts whether he is going to be primarily a returner or a bigger part of the offense than what is speculated. He is a rookie and he can ill afford to get behind. Chemistry is important for young players.

I think he signs sometime tomorrow.

Huizenga never said that he'd let him go into the 2008 draft. That would be sheer lunacy. He said that Ginn wouldn't play, which I still don't buy and neither does anyone else except for a delusional few. And please, don't compare this to a regular job, that's just idiocy. I don't remember being drafted by anyone when I got out of college and being told I can only work for them. Regular jobs don't have you signing 6 year contracts that can be voided by your employer at any time for any reason, such as an injury or a coaching change.

If Ginn holds out then he really will be nothing but a kick returner for us this year.

Wayne is a great owner but................

This is where you hire football men to make football decisions.
