what you think of Travis Daniels

We had an identical thread on this last week, but I'll say again that he's done pretty well for a 4th round rook thrown into the fire as a starter since around week 3 (?). I'm not sure how much more upside he has, but he may well provide competent corner play for us for a long time. I'm not saying Pat Surtain good, but competent.

Travis Daniel's performance thus far has been solid for a rookie. He will only get better as he gains more experience, but you can see the talent is definetly there for him to become a very good CB. There is one thing I really like about him so far; he's a good tackler, he wraps up the runner pretty well.

iquestion how much better he is going to get...after all he isnt a saban project, hes been with saban for what 4 or 5 years now...

He needs some more speed...

But he has done a very good job i would like to see him play Safety if not he would be great as 2nd CB or 3rd CB next year

We need to draft some Quick CB's in the 2nd and 3rd round..

Move him into the Saftey Spot to play next to Lance i think thats were he would do a amazing job

I think we'll have a pretty solid corner group next year with Daniels, Poole, and Madison. We could do a lot worse.

you are correct to an extent. He isn't going to get better at picking up the defensive schemes, but that isn't what he has struggled with at all. WHat he will improve at is his actual coverage of the recievers and the ability to stay with them. NFL experience will help him start to recognize routes. It will also help him to adjust to the rules and the ways you can cover, use your hands and body, etc. He has been flagged for a few pass interference calls because he is used to the college style of play. These are the things he will improve at and he can only get better from here. I dont see him being a superstar but he will be a very solid #2 cb for years to come.

I've said it last year, and now this year. What indication is there that Poole will be any good? He's barley played...

He always did well in the situations (mostly nickel & dime) that he was put into. He has the talent, and with a full offseason of coaching from Saban, will be a very solid corner for years. He may never be a Surtain, but who is?

Don't forget Shirdonya Mitchell too. I watched a few of his games two years ago, and I was really impressed with his skill. If he is healthy and hasn't lost any speed from the injury, he will be the fastest CB we have.

Thanks. I forgot about Mitchell. He has the most talent, speed, and potential out of all of them. If anybody can get him up to speed, Saban can.

Now all we need is another Safety. I'm very happy with Schulters, but Tebucky isn't the answer.

Travis has been a pleasant surprise, for a 4th rounder. Any time a 4th rounder wins a starting job as a rookie, it's probably more than you have a right to expect. In his case, he had little choice, but he has been competent at least. Certainly better than Howard, but I think his upside is limited by his average speed and quickness. I'd like him a lot as a #3 cb, ok as a #2, but I'd like to see us get a legitimate young #1 cb in the draft, unless Poole proves he's it.
