We've asked a few players in for visits (Law, Shulters) and we still have rookie contracts to negotiate. I was wondering how much money we actually have to spend on some of these guys.

Anyone know?

If we're asking Law in for a second visit it leads me to believe that we might have the cap room to sign him this year.

We have $8 million I think in cap space.

Cap

It is going to be interesting to see what they're willing to pay RW, if he un-retires. Personally, I think they should only offer him the minimum this year if they're going to let him out of his owed debt. Make him play his heart out if he wants more. Again, if they can somehow get away w/giving him the minimum, it free's up a lot!!!!

i think howard is a definate possibility. mare however i think depends on what kind of scouting saban has done for kickers(which is the hardest to scout for) and also how well Mare seems to be holding up over preseason. He is a dependable kicker i think we atleast owe him this year to see if he can play like he did when he first showed up.

We're in pretty good shape (in the top 10 best cap situations in NFL). Don't know the exact numbers though.

P.S. - I'm really getting sick of this freeposting Mr. T./Yoda insolent.

I believe the # was somewhere in the neighbourhood of $2-2.5 million above the rookie contracts. Factor in that teams usually keep about $1 million of that for injury insurance and that some work will also have to be done to factor in Ricky and you see why Saban keeps saying "minimum" type salaries. It's really all the team can afford. Vet minimum contracts with not likely to be earned incentives or very creative 2 year deals that make the first year hit very low.

It's closer to 9 million. How about releaseing Howard & Mare to save some money?

I can understand people talking about cutting Howard, but Mare is clearly our best option at kicker, cutting him would be foolish imo
