..given our likely cap space, new offensive philosophies and position priorities?

To get some insight into the state of some other teams, I regularly read a number of forums for fans' opinions and relative levels of satisfaction or dissension.

Recently, I've seen Lamar prominently and frequently cited on at least 3 of those fan forum Free Agency wish lists - including the Jets. The general opinion is that he's a dynamite, reasonably durable young rusher without too many miles on him who's been underutilized by the Fins.

I know most of us appreciate him and do realize he should have been used more often and effectively- and have been able to benefit from holes being opened by an offensive line a lot more effective than the ones with which he's had to contend.

I'd hate to lose him in general, and especially to a divisional foe. (NY fans are licking their lips picturing him in tandem with Ivory).

Long way of saying I've gotta believe he's being targeted in FA by a number of GMs who feel the same way their fans do.

In your estimation, what kind of package will it take to keep him?

Local reporters here are reporting that Dallas wants him, badly. They think he can have DeMarco Murray type production in their system and behind that line. I doubt he sticks around to be honest.

If Mimi really wants him they'll et him back. It depends on what price they're willing to pay to keep him.

Whetever $ we spend is most likely going on defense, and oline.

Miller is will be the highest paid RB in free agency, because of his production/youth/durability.

And I'm not worried about it one bit. We can prob get Forte for dirt cheap, or even Arian Foster who will reportedly be cut. Chris Ivory is also available. There's a lot of rbs out there.

Lot of options, gotta let miller walk IMO.

Love to keep him at the right price but his last stop Gase was a run first guy and take your shots downfield. A power back that can take the toll of 20 - 25 carries a game might be what he's looking for. Miller is very effective at around 15 carries which is all he was asked to do here the last few years. Can he carry a bigger load ? Not sure. The Jets are probably interested in him as more a second guy and pass catcher out of the back field with Irovy get the bulk of the load. Honestly Miller would be perfect in that role. So here's the question. Will them or someone else offer a FA big deal? If so unfortunately I think he leaves. JMO

Rumor: Lamar Miller wanted to give Miami a hometown discount.

Rumor: When Dan Campbell became head coach, he promised Lamar that he would get to carry the rock a lot.

Rumor: Lamar Miller is upset that his carries were split with Jay Ajayi and Damien Williams, which really looked like it was an attempt to keep his production low for negotiation purposes.

So the long and short answer is that it doesn't look good. However, it looks like the Bears are going to let Matt Forte explore free agency, and this could be an acceptable backup plan for us. Forte worked with Gase last year and the two had a lot of very nice things to say about one another. Forte looks like he has something left in the tank, too.

It will be very interesting to see if Gase brings over any players he is familiar with from Denver or Chicago. One of the areas where Joe Philbin failed (IMO) is that he seemed very resistant to bringing over guys from Green Bay, like James Jones, when they were available. Maybe some of that was his famous inability to get along with the General Manager, but it's something a lot of us noticed.

4 years, 30 million with 15 million guaranteed is probably the range to expect.

Here is the thing though . . . David Johnson . . . . 4 years 2.9 million.

Is Miami really in a position to pay up Lamar those kind of dollars when running backs are a dime a dozen moreso than any other position in the NFL?

Keep our own. He's a great young back for us. Pay the man and give him carries.

Are there other options? Sure, if you like old injury prone RB's coming off of IR.

I would guess that a fair offer would be 5 years at $25M.

Nah, that would be a lowball offer to be honest with you. You have to remember, this kids only 24, is consistently over 4.5 YPA . . . is clearly one of the most explosive running backs in the entire league and played for a team that refused to run the ball and used the short passing game as there version of "running the ball". Combined with the fact that he'll probably be the #1 RB on the market . . . I'd expect more.

Not a big numbers guy when it comes to contracts of other players...but...just wondering if tagging Miller would be a good option for us??? I honestly don't know?? I know if we don't he will get paid a lot more than he is worth, just like Clay was.

i'd prefer to keep him because he's young and dynamic....we've let players go before but miller signing elsewhere would sting.

I would make re-signing Lamar Miller, right up there with fixing the O-Line, the #1 priority in free agency. I don't want to lose a great young back who is just entering his prime. Would rather not see the team sign any older injury prone RBs. There are plenty of underachieving bums on the team that can be cut in order to free up salary cap space to re-sign Miller. I believe Gase would utilize Miller more than the previous coaching staff did. I hate when the team drafts and develops players only to let them go when they are ready to break out.

I would LOVE to resign him.... that said, I'm not over paying. Look how Buffalo over paid for Clay and he was no where to be seen in so many games.

I love the kid but it's time to let him go. He's worth $6 million a year but not to us. He's improved a lot every year and has become a very good all around back. I am really proud of him.

If we can get enough LB's, DB's and Guard's this year to stabilize those units.....

Leonard Fournette in 2017 has to be a target for us. He's the game changer of all game changers.

Who knows but I'd like to see us concentrate on everything but RB right now and somehow add Leonard next year.

Adrian Peterson went 7th, so you don't need a top 5 pick to land him. I say that now, next year watch him run for 2,500 yards, 25 TD's and be the No.1 pick in the draft.

I am also a big fan Ajayi's potential which is why I am ok with letting LM go.
