While watching yesterday's game, i notice Culver playing and I thought for sure either Bell or Wilson must've been benched. However, upon further review, during a defensive redzone stance, I could've sworn I saw Bell, Wilson and Culver, all 3 safeties on the field at the same time.

Do we run a defense with 3 safeties? I thought that was really strange.

I want to see Clemons soon. I think he's got game. At least I know he can tackle a hell of a lot better than Gerbel.

bc bell and wilson cant cover the TE so they had Culver covering the TE which is sad cuz those 2 safeties are about 50 mill combined.

this FO sucks at FA signings.

Bell, Culver and Wilson - that's not three safeties. That's two safeties and a sieve.

:chuckle:

But in all seriousness, I do think resigning Y. Bell for that big contract was a mistake. He has never been much better than just decent and that's on the rare occasions that he has been healthy. And now going into his 30s....not feeling that signing.

They played a nickel defense most of the day. This was something I suggested last week with LT out there was no need to guard against the inside run, so get Ayodele or Crowder out and get Culver in there to cover Gates.

i think culver played well yesterday ...he has actually been real solid wen he has been givin playin time

i noticed this too and i liked it, and if u think about it ... it worked...gates really wasnt what beat us it was a few big plays to vincent jackson and the pick 6 coupled with our complete lack of anything in the redzone.

It's called a nickel package. Which is what I was saying they should have had on the field against Dallas Clark (instead of Ayodele or Crowder on him)

Setting single-wing versus no-huddle aside, the rest of the contest came down to calls, coaching and individual performances.

What were the Dolphins doing in a standard 3-4-4, rather than a nickel or a dime package, against a team that always splits out three receivers and often sends the tight end downfield? On tight end Dallas Clark's two huge gainers, of 80 and 49 yards, he was covered by a linebacker -- both times by an inside linebacker (once by Channing Crowder, once by Akin Ayodele) -- because Miami didn't have a nickel package on the field.

A defensive game plan in which football's best pass-catching tight end is covered deep by an inside linebacker is a strange game plan.
