Jeff Fisher was 31-33 his first 4 years as coach of the Titans. He was 29-35 during the last 4 years. He had ONE stretch during the middle of his career where he had some success. No Superbowl wins, and only one Superbowl appearance. Why are people so in love with this guy? He's simply the flavor of the month, as the Dolphins were after the end of 2005.
In 2005 the Fins end on a hardcore hot/winning streak, and all sorts pick them to go the Superbowl this year... in 2006 Jeff Fisher is on the hot seat to be fired, as the season gears up. Tennessee starts slow and rumors persist he will be fired at the end of the year, and yet they finish strong like the 2005 Dolphins. So, now Fisher is the greatest thing since sliced bread. It's a joke. People who keep pining over Fisher in 2008 need to get a grip. This guy is nothing special!!!

The titans are limping out of what was one of the worst cap situations i've ever seen and within a year of getting out of it, he almost got them to the playoffs. Thats very impressive.

Jeff Fisher sounds like a pretty good NFL good coach to me:

"In a five-year period between 1999 and 2003 his team’s success is unmatched by any coach in franchise history. Fisher led the Titans to four playoff appearances (1999, 2000, 2002, 2003), two Division titles (2000 & 2002), two AFC Championship Games (1999, 2002) and one Super Bowl berth (XXXIV). He presided over the most victorious (56 regular season wins and 5 postseason wins) and successful five-year period in the franchise’s 46-year history."

"Last year with a win over the Houston Texans (10/9/05), he became the 34th NFL coach to reach 100 career wins and 10th among active coaches. He also became just the 17th coach to reach the mark with one team. Since 1999, Fisher ranks fifth in the league in wins with 65, behind Tony Dungy, Andy Reid, Bill Cowher and Mike Shanahan."

I think Fisher and Norm Chow did a good job with Vince Young. They had a hell of a comeback this season and almost squeeked into the playoffs. I wouldn't underestimate the Titans next year. If Vince Young keeps on improving his passing game, they are going to be pretty formidable.

How about that as a reason? We havent had one in 22 years!
Yeah, I'm sure after never having a SP appearance since 1980's, and then now being spoiled in 2000's, Pats Fans would be REALLY happy with one SB appearance in the next 22 years. We don't need a Fisher, we need a Belichek. I'm glad you're not calling the shots... happy with a coach who has one SB loss in 12 years? Sheesh!

Those stats are irrelevant and a joke. He took over a nothing franchise, and you're referencing FRANCHISE stats. 12 years, no SB's. 8 bad years, 4 good years. If anyone is a coach long enough, they can be 8-8 for 30+ years and lead the league in coaching victories. I am NOT satisfied with our Fins making 1 SB (and losing) in 12 years. Aren't you guys tired of "close, but can't close the deal"? I'm SICK of it! Patriots sucked, now they are virtual perennial SB picks.... give me Jeff Fisher, and give me mediocrity! Give me Jeff Fisher, and give me close, but not quite good enough! Come on!

Fishers the reason they were in that cap situation???

Who else out there do you think is in Belichick's league? Cowher maybe, but he's going to be golfing for a year or two. Getting coaches is a lot like getting free agents. Timing is everything. Same thing with the draft. THE guy at the position that obviously needs improvement isn't always there where you pick in the draft. There really is a lot of pure luck involved in the NFL.

Just look at how lucky the Patriots got in that game with the Chargers yesterday. That Chargers team was about as loaded with talent as it gets, and freakin' (6th round draft pick) Tom Brady STILL somehow pulled it off ... after throwing 3 picks earlier in the game. I bet Belichick and Brady are sitting around tonight saying the same thing to themselves ... "I can't believe we actually pulled that one off". The football gods still like the Patriots for some damn reason. It makes me want to puke just thinking about it. :barf:

if you speak to people who actually get paid to do something in football you'll find he's considered one of the top 5 minds in the game. But I guess the soapbox is more important, rant away:shakeno:

Oh, where do we find one of those? Do they grow on trees?

Hey, I have an idea. Let's get a guy who learned under Belichick, and was his defensive coordinator during Belichick's first head coaching stint, and used to get together with him every single off-season to discuss football. That sounds like a Belichick, right?

Oh, wait.....
