I keep seeing all these threads about the Wildcat formation. Draft Pat White...sign Mike Vick...etc, etc, etc.
Why does everyone think that this is going to be a staple of our offense again next year? The Wildcat was created out of necessity BECAUSE WE COULDN'T MOVE THE FOOTBALL ON THE GROUND. Sparano and his staff had to find a way to get the most talent on the field possible because we oviously had very little cohesion after the Arizona game. We couldn't run. Pennington hadn't been in the offense for more than a couple weeks, so our passing game wasnt' fluid.
The Wildcat was put in because they really had no other choice! This year, the idea should be that we won't NEED to use that kind of play very often. With a tough new center, a healthy Donald Thomas, and experience for Long the other O-linemen, our running game should be VASTLY improved - thus negating the need for an option/singlewing offense like the Wildcat. Not to mention, we all saw that the Wildcat wasn't all that effective in the second half of the year.
All this talk about Pat White, Vick, or anyone else is simply moot, in my opinion. Miami wouldn't waste a draft pick on a guy simply to use him on option plays. And I don't see them taking a flyer on a cancer like Vick. Instead of hoping we have to use a formation like the Wildcat more than once a game, lets hope we can play football the old fashioned way.
SHOVE IT DOWN THEIR THROAT.
