i posted this in another thread. sorry if u read it, i got started and think its a topic that deserves discussion on its own merit - that got started by whats wrong with the fans and the stadium based on ricky williams comments - that hes right about btw. stephan ross this is for you

how could they not realize? the stadium is never filled, and always way too many opposing fans. our fans cant even bring any energy to the stadium like other teams, and it does affect the team. but there are alot of reasons for this starting with the biggest one

1. this stadium was a complete failure in stadium design! terrible! and since we moved here from the orange bowl they took the fans out of the game. the seats are way too far from the field and the atmosphere is just awful. if you are in that stadium u dont even feel like ur part of the game the way u do in other stadiums. it was a complete fail, and ive said that since they moved in. they need to revamp the seating. the noise doesnt stay in the stadium the way it does in other stadiums either.

if the owner cares - he needs to get this figured out and get it fixed. it is currently not even possible to get that stadium "rocking" because of a serious design flaw. im sure it can be fixed. but they gotta get it right. and unfortunately it needs some upgrades.

2. when u are so consistently boring to watch, when you are so consistently poor on the field, when ur front office consistently makes decisions that even the fans on dolphins website can collectively see or terrible terrible moves, and collectively - the educated ones seemingly could make better personal decisions based on what they see around the league. ITS PATHETIC! and when posters are consistently proven correct about these decisions its just sad. these guys GET PAID. its their life, and they cant do a better job.

its been going on for 20 years. 20 years!!! this franchise has been a complete joke since jimmy johnson left. they have gotten nothing correct. and consistently for 20 years essentially never even made an attempt to find a franchise qb. these idiots have been so dumb they think their coaching will take this team to the top. the philosophy of this franchise to run the ball and win with defense has been inherently incorrect for 20 years. its fundamentally flawed and has ALWAYS been incorrect regardless of what the dumb *** media and these stupid *** old school coaches think. its a virus of the mind that has infiltrated the coaching profession for years. it may have been true 70 years ago. but its seriously been that long since its been accurate, and the reason is the game changed, the thinking just took forever to catch up. it took these idiots getting proved wrong over and over and over and over again before change FINALLY just recently broke through. its been this way since the dawn of the super bowl. and all u have to do is look at the quarterbacks that have won since the beginning.

it has ALWAYS been this way. the elite quarterbacks in the game win championships. NOT the elite running backs. and yes of course defense helps. but defense comes second to an elite quarterback AND IT ALWAYS HAS. and there are NO EXCEPTIONS. yes sometimes a dominant defense can break through and carry a team. but it is NOT the rule. it the exception to the rule.

so the reason the stadium blows is because weve been BEHIND the times for 2 decades. even shula figured it out - a guy that was hell bent on run and play defense. he realized if u CAN pass first u should.

when ur plan is flawed how can u hope to succeed? how can u expect long term success?

3. we were also a victim of our past success. this franchise was so good for so long, and had such fantastic success for so long, that the failures made the failing even more unbearable for this franchise and fans. because we know what its like to win. weve seen greatness. just not for a long time now.

so what do we need to do???? hire the right coach! hire the right front office! people that understand fundamentally HOW to win, and can implement that philosophy. IT STARTS WITH QUARTERBACK. if u dont have one. YOU BETTER GET ONE. and NOTHING matters until you do.

if this stadiums issues are fixed, and at least the offense can put up points - so u dont have a boring product. fans will return. and the winning will fix it all. this is whats needed. its not that hard to figure out. but its whats necessary. it all starts with having the right philosophy, the right plan. u gotta make the correct decisions. 20 years of failures is awfully hard. but the thinking has been ****ed up around here for a very long time. and THAT is why we fail.

if ross fixes the THINKING. this thing can get turned around quickly! and everybody will be happy and that stadium will be filled. these issues will go away. its not THAT hard to figure out.

I do not understand the theory of the stadium being one of the reasons, I have been there several times and thought the energy and proximity to the field was fine.
Florida is a transient state, there are always other fans bc most people that live there came from somewhere else. There is NO other team that deals with that the way we do, PERIOD! The Lions have been terrible forever and they have some of the most die hard fans around. Their dads were fans before them and they were born in to it. I do however agree that winning and being "interesting" watch has a lot to do with it. A LOT of fair weather fans due to their not having been lifelong fans. We need consistent good performance and the stadium will be full......here's to hoping the show the offense put on against NE continues!!!

lions fans are diehard. but ur wrong. it was bad in detroit until the new stadium was built. now the atmosphere is electric, and all it took was a little hope and the fans and the excitement returned. im glad u mentioned detroit. because its a PERFECT example. i know because i LIVE HERE. things have CHANGED. it was because of the stadium, and the fans faith that the franchise finally had some direction, as well as the perception that a franchise qb was finally in place. moving forward detroit is in fantastic shape, and i would expect that the team will win quite a few games in the coming years.

miami needs to hitch their train to the same track. and get this **** corrected

Whats wrong with this franchise? There are 2 easy answers to this question I will list in order.

1 - Stephen Ross owns the team

2 - Jeff Ireland is the General Manager

Until 1 sells the team and takes 2 with him, I dont expect much to change.

Surprisngly, I really hope Sparano succeeds. I like the subtle changes in him since Parcells left. Unfortunately he is a lame duck and will probably be the first to go.

You just proved my point (and one of yours too) that the TEAM has given them hope. If they go back to trash the stadium won't keep people rooting for the team. I certainly wouldn't argue with getting a new stadium (not going to happen any time soon) but the newness of it would wear off after a while and it comes down to us becoming a threat again consistently.

The owner, the GM , and the coach........Two of the three will have to go for us to start winning again. That's the cold hard truth.

well imo they dont need a new stadium. its a good facility it just needs some updates. it really could be as simple as bringing the seats closer to the field so fans feel like they are part of the game. this may help keep a little noise in the stadium as well. dont know that can be corrected easily. the plan they had for the partial roof would probably be a very good idea and it could make that experience 100% different. maybe all they need. i do know the big house in ann arbor is WAY more loud now and its because the press boxes they installed are keeping the noise in the stadium. its a better experience now, and it has a lot to do with acoustics

if sparano was the coach he is today philosophically when he came to miami id be in his corner. the fact of the matter is he simply isnt a great NFL head coach. he just isnt the guy. he doesnt have that "it" factor we talk about in players. he doesnt instill confidence in players or fans that he can get it done. and thats just simply cause he isnt that guy. look no further than his press conferences. he just simply isnt the guy. i give him credit for his willingness to change. he made the right moves. but the guy on balance is still a goof. they make dumb simple personal errors, and sparano does factor into those choices. jeff ireland didnt cut will allen. sparano did.

he just isnt somebody that leads. hes not a player players want to play for. so he doesnt bring any of those "intangibles" to the table. has he improved as a head coach? yes. but like brock lesner says u cant make chicken salad out of chicken **** - whatever that means i think it applies here

What this franchise so desperately needs is structure from top-to-bottom, we need it starting with the owner, down to the GM and scouting department, down to the coach, and down to the Quarterback and players on the field. Everybody needs to be on the same page and know what direction this organization is heading. Parcells made a lot of mistakes with this franchise in the few years he was here but at least he put us back on that path and gave us some form of structure, we were 1-15 and now we at least have teams that can compete but he dropped the ball in a lot of areas and we got sidetracked. Look what happened this offseason, our owner and general manager flew out to California to try and hire another coach while we still had a head coach! Thats disorganization! What Atlanta is doing right now with Thomas Dimitroff is what I'm talking about, they got him from the Patriots, he was a national scout and now they have structure and the franchise is moving in the right direction, they draft well, work the free agent pool well and everybody is on the same page, same with the saints. Look at the teams that are consistently in the playoffs and have good organizations, packers, colts, patriots, steelers, ravens, eagles, giants, these teams all have structure and direction, they draft well, make good decisions in free agency and they "get it", everybody in the organization is on the same page. That's why if sparano gets fired I think we need to bring in Cowher because he will bring that structure and direction we need, I heard where ever he goes he wants to bring Kevin Colbert with him, he is the steelers GM and actually worked for Miami as a scout, or he would bring Ron Hughes the college scouting coordinator, these guys get it, they come from a winning organization, they know how to draft and build a stable franchise, but until we get direction or structure and everybody is on the same page as an organization, we will never get over that hump.

What they can do to fix the stadium is lower the field six to ten more feet and add seats closer to the field. They have done this to many college stadiums across the country and not only does it help the crowd noise, but it will add revenue to the franchise...ie' see Dallas stadium.

oh and i do have to say to ross's credit. this guy has made some blunders - no doubt - some really dumb pr things. like the tebow day etc. but listen MOST of what this guy has done - even tho it hasnt worked out - hes getting it correct philosophically.

he wants to create atmosphere. hes got the right idea. but he needs to join the 21st century. we dont give a **** about jimmy buffett, and we dont give a **** if fergie is a fricking limited partner before the national anthem. just stfu with that **** and sing. we already KNOW shes a limited partner no need to announce it. they just end up looking like clowns.

BUT. he was correct to pursue harbaugh! harbaugh DOES have that "it" factor. and is a fantastic coach - one guys will love to play for. its just unfortunate he didnt get his man. guess what? HE TRIED folks!! he even had the right guy. at least he tried, instead of worrying about looking foolish. he SHOULD have kept it bottled up. but so what. sparanos a joke anyways, and what does he owe him? nothing. if sparano is such a great coach thats exactly the type of added pressure and added difficulties he needs to overcome anyways. so i say - more power to him....and sparano can sink or swim. he will of course sink. but it was pretty clear early on he would anyways. the guy just isnt the right guy

the other thing ross did was mandated a more effective exciting offense - and HES RIGHT!!!!! sparanos ideas have been wrong all along. and he finally admitted it. it took ROSS to cause him to change. so u gotta give him props for this.

ross has made some blunders. BUT - he has the right idea. and THAT is the most important thing here. i think hell get it right in time. at least the guy cares. i dont think getting on ross is the right move. plus he isnt going anywhere. this guy may surprise us - give him time. he hasnt made his hire yet. and he went after the right guy. just didnt get him

Also even when #13 was here and we were #winning...... sunday 1pm and 4pm games very often were sellout's but the stadium was not filled very often either. It's just the way Miami is.

People fill the stadium 100% on night games, playoffs and the opening day of the year , that's it.

Ever since they Moved to " No Life Stadium " that's the way it's been.... even winning and having the best QB of all time didn't change it.

Having a Super Bowl winning team is the only way to fix it, because having one of the best players and having a winning team didn't and anyone who saw the games in the 80's/90's know's this place wasn't filled even with Dan there.

my concern with cowher is we go back to 3 yards and a cloud of dust and deal with the same **** all over again. yes cowher finally broke through and won a super bowl, but that team for years was simply in a division full of also rans year in and year out. they were simply better than average or better than the worst i guess. the way cowher coach before will win u the majority of ur games against poor teams if u have talent. but its not how u WIN. its not how u win the big one. im not so sure even wandstedt couldnt have been a perennial winner in that division.

i think cowher has some good things to add. is he the guy? im not convinced. IF he has changed his thinking on HOW to win - and who knows - hes had some time away to digest the game. maybe hes changed like sparano has. but this is a big IF. i suppose u find out if u interview the guy. but if cowher brings back the 3 yards and cloud of dust mentality - i dont want him - he can go somewhere else. maybe hes changed. if so id be happy to have him.

149-90-1 record and 2 Superbowl appearances, how many have we been a part of in the last 20 years? don't worry I'll wait, the league has changed in the last 10-15 years it is now a passing league and cowher and his guys are smart football guys they will understand that, look at Pittsburgh right now they have turned into a passing team with wallace and brown, they understand it's not a run the football play good defense NFL anymore, when he was coaching his style worked because it was a running league he didn't need an elite qb, you could maul a WR and no penalty would be called, now all these rules protect receivers and and let QB's put up record numbers, believe me Cowher and his guys would understand that and build this team accordingly, I would rather have him and his guys come in here than have Ireland's dysfunctional BS!

fine with me. im all for it. its probably the answer. look pretty cool too. need to make that atmosphere a little more intimate. less stale. this would probably do it.
