After we've trimmed the fat and opened up some cap room, what approach do you take to our offseason?

Do you go out and do a free agency focused on decent offensive targets (GUARD) and then draft heavily defensive? I personally let wake go or restructure so we can get Vernon. Other than that I go out and get 2 young decent guards. Not the top tier. But good guards. I also look at a decent LB since they're not a hot commodity when it comes to price.

Then draft PRIMARILY defensive, CB, DE, LB, FS, QB, RB, and LB. In that order.

- Address OT and OG positions with guys already inside the building and through free agency. Get yourself one proven guard in free agency and plug him in. Consider moving Billy Turner from guard to backup tackle, where he's actually done pretty well in the past.

- Trim the fat off the roster by cutting guys like Greg Jennings and seeing if you can get guys like Jordan Cameron and Cam Wake to restructure or take a pay cut (both have already said they would be open to this).

- Draft like mad on defense.

- Take advantage of the fact that Vance Joseph is our new DC and figure out which of the 37 impending Bengals free agents can help our defense right away without breaking the bank. Then sign them.

I think that the defensive side of the ball is a tougher fix, but the new head coach has already identified the problem areas on offense and is working to address them. We are very lucky that our standout offensive problems (OG, OL depth) are relatively cheap to fix and will have a bunch of good solutions available in free agency.

Maybe we get lucky and Vance Joseph helps us poach a couple of quality starters from the Bengals. Maybe we get lucky and Ramsey falls to 8.

First and foremost they have to fix online above anything else including drafting lineman to start and for depth. This is tannehill last yr to prove that he no longer is a project but a good qb. Everyone needs to forget about playoffs or wins, this is about finding out if tannehill is the qb of the future for this franchise. Gase will give him that chance. Tannehill needs to prove to everyone that he can lead this team to success, no excuses. Either you perform or you don't. I criticize tannehill a lot not because I like to but because I want this kid to succeed. He is the toughest qb in the nfl. No other qb can take the amount of hits he takes and still walk. He reminds me of Bruce Willis character in the movie un breakable.
For 2016 tannehill has to be fearless , and find a way to make him hungry to succeed ex he can't get any from his wife unless he throws 3 td per game.Make him desperate. Anything to see him angry the whole game.

The two areas I'd concentrate on are offensive line, specifically guard and corner. I think bringing in modest priced free agents is the way to go and not breaking the bank there. I'd rely heavily on the draft. I haven't looked over salaries and who to cut, but I'm sure they'll be some tough choices.

I do like the secondary choices in this draft. Miami could really rebuild that unit in a hurry, much like the Jets did through free agency last year.

Agree with your on drafting like mad on defense. I think the draft dictates that as well...lots of talent on defense. Love what there is in the secondary and at defensive end. Not a lot of linebackers after the top three ...Jack, Smith and Ragland. Might be tough to fix the linebacking unit again if the team goes cb or de in R1.

I look to restructure RT, Suh, Wake & Cameron
I try & convince Matthews to stay & resign him so now I need not worry about adding any skill position in FA or draft.
Resign Shelby
Look to sign Vinny Curry to replace Vernon
Sign Thurmond from Eagles also as FS
See what I can do about Sean Smith
Look to add a FB

More FA/Draft is obvious
OL
LB
CB

  • resign Vernon, Miller
  • Fill holes in free agency
  • Draft BPA
  • Cut old expensive players

.

Has Cameron said that? I know wake has. I would love to keep Cameron at a reduced rate.

1. First and foremost, if I was the GM, I would talk with my coaches. What are their schemes? What do they think are most important? Who do they think is expendable? etc...
2. Find out if we are going rebuild or compete this year. This make a big difference in long term planning
3. Cut whoever they recommend first and foremost; if the coach doesn't want them, I don't either. I may also cut a few others depending on who is left
4. Fill all NEEDS in free agency! Guard first, CB or LB second, etc... Just make sure that we don't HAVE to draft someone to fill the needs of this season.
5. Draft BPA. There is no position that is safe, young guns coming through.

If I was in charge -
1. I would look to restructure Wake and Cameron
2. I would also try to restructure Grimes and Albert to better deals (to protect us form injury) I would want to keep them thus not creating more immediate holes but would cut them if cheaper replacements are obviously available.
3. I would try to resign Vernon and Miller but if they want too much I would let them walk. I wouldn't even look to resign Mathews
4. I would cut the chafe including but not limited to Greg Jennings etc
5. I would look to add a starting G and a starting caliber FS or C
6. I would Target Mack or Hargrieves with #8 go the opposite with the 2nd and look to add depth to the LB OL, S, after that.

I would put together an incentive program for both sides of the ball - something like a travel fund for the Defense and Offence MVP that all team fines go into. I would have a game by game incentive for each week and try to build the best team chemistry I could for the entire season and get this team overachieving instead of the uninspiring product we have seen for the past few years!!!

Sign a proven guard in free agency .

Find a decent 3rd tackle to cover the inevitable games one of our tackles will miss .

Draft a corner / linebacker

Don't overpay for Vernon . He's not special . He's good . No great

Conceding the first 4 years were brutal and he didn't have decent protection to execute and develop his skills while only giving him 1 year to prove himself really doesn't show much fairness.

For every skill he developed during that period of time that could have ended some NFL QB careers, he DID improve every year except the year his coach hung him out to dry to save his own job.

That's like abusing a dog for the first 4 years of his life, placing him in a loving family with children and expecting him to lose his defensive and territorial behaviors and turn out to be AKC Best of Show in just 1 year.

Because this organization and staff has left him hanging without an average NFL OL in his first 4 years he doesn't trust his protection, trust his coaches, trust his teammates and trust himself. Yet all of his supposed excuses are stripped away this year and he had better deliver.

Admitting he has viable "excuses" also admits you accept he was not given a fair chance to start. It's not his fault the fans have waited 4 years for him to ascend to NFL Greatness. But there's not a single fan that would stand behind that OL for 4 years and take the hits he has and not have their own new perspective on the problem.

Giving him 1 year to prove himself is holding him 100% responsible for every decision made by coaches, FO and players around him.

Sorry but that's not the correct way to develop a QB. The fans, organization and coaches must be all in on Tannehill. Developing a QB takes time. Just because the calendar time has passed with insufficient resources and effort applied doesn't mean "we tried". We failed.

Invest in the kid, stop half measuring the solutions around him and commit to him. You'll see the return once he trusts this coach, this staff, this FO, these fans and this organization have his back. He's gutted it out for 4 years taking hits while we've sat in our recliners. He deserves more than what he has gotten.

We need 2 starting OGs and a Swing Tackle. Get proven guys and not another rookie "to develop" and finally once and for all OFFICIALLY start the clock on his ascension. Give him resources, give him protection and give him a chance.

The Miami Dolphins are too blame for this. Not RT.

We need to build a strong oline and a big time middle linebacker.

Well said. Makes a lot of sense.

I don't think one offseason is going to do it but here is where I would start.

LB crew needs to be upgraded/get rid of the guys who shouldn't be in the NFL.

CB Grimes gone and find two new starters.

S We need someone opposite Jones.

DE Get Wake restructured and find out how much Vernon is going to cost. Don't overpay for him because there is options in the first round.

DT Get a third guy in the rotation.

G Find two quality starters. What we had last year was crap. Pure crap.

T Find a young prospect that can come in and play the third tackle and move into a starting position one day.

C Get a backup

WR See how much Matthews is going to cost. If he is going to be expensive move on. We are setup pretty good with the trio we have.

TE Draft another Charles Clay

RB If Miller doesn't break the bank keep him. If not move on. RB are a dime a dozen.

QB We are set if we don't get him killed.

Special teams was a nice surprise. Just don't let your punter get a late hit personal foul again.

I don't think you can do this in one year.
