When was the last time we had a successful camp like this?

So far all responses to my post confirm my position in a way; we are so unbelievably prepared to be crushed that no serious fan will even consider this a positive camp yet - but folks it is.
Chad Henne had serious training camp issues and the news out of camp showed fans and media stretching and reaching to be positive. He looked slow - had poor pocket presence - would throw some nice ones and then leave everyone scratching their heads with pick sixes IN PRACTICE!
No one seriously spoke of the up side that has been going down with Tanneyhill.
So we are shell shocked...But it was way back when Shula used to be able to pull diamonds out of the rough - Charles Bowser, Jiim Jensen, David Woodley, and even Jimmy did it with Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor.
I am fine with skepticism but I am clear that this camp is/has been different then many we have had in a long time.
As an aging fan I remember when every camp was full of amazing stories of players who made an impression from out of no-where - early rounders proved the draft brain trust correct and late rounders or udfa would pleasantly surprise.
Have not seen this in a long time!
Previous camp reports in recent years have been clearly stretches to be hopeful about most anything...
Sporano's camp were full of old style smash mouth pile ups in running drills...There were injuries and real doubts about players drafted, the ability to make a difference for the team, and most of all any real sense of meaningful direction...

Exactly. Every year the fan base gets overly excited about players that flash in training camp. Then the lights come on and those players don't quite live up to the billing. So far, this year hasn't looked much different. The only difference from past years is that we MAY finally have found our QB of the future. But Chad Henne also received a lot of positive press and fan reaction his first few years in the league. Tannehill is still going to have to get over the developmental hump that Henne has never been able to get over.

Do I need to remind fellow Dolphin fans of the previous years of agony? Like: Larry Shannon not Randy Moss - Yatil Green - Ricky Williams suspensions, John Beck and his family, David Overstreet killed, Don Shula's desperation trying to buy a ring with Steve Entman and a sorted group of other overpayed over the hill clowns, Jackie Shipp, Cecil Collins, John Bosa and his knees, Ray Lucas, (I forget the name of the QB who played for KC and had so many concussions)....I mean seriously folks this could go on all night...but I'll stop...


Its way too early to say this is a successful draft, or a successful season but FINALLY a training camp that has been WAY more positive and optimistic then I have seen in DECADES! And about that I am stoked.

I think this is the most successful camp since 91 and maybe since 83 when Marino showed up - and then shortly after that Clayton and Duper showed up...

I like your enthusiasm, but am I missing something???? Why is Sean Smith mentioned as a positive? Sean Smith is the still the worst tackler on this team, a complete liability in run support, and he let a 3rd string WR own him last week. It's too early to tell about a better defensive scheme, it is going to take time to see how good this defense can be. Our secondary is a big question mark right now, but I think they will improve over the next few weeks.

I am intrigued about Hogan, I've been hearing good things about him all summer, too bad HK put the spotlight on him which will make it close to impossible to hide him on the practice squad, so I'm hoping they find a way to protect him from being poached.

It's pre-season...we all want to see old Dolphins football, but we are nowhere near what we use to be. Every year I get excited about the season and they come out with GARBAGE. So I relate it to Golf..the Dolphins are taking lessons rightnow and it's gonna get worst before it gets better. I've been a fan since 71 and I'll always be a Dolphins fan. no matter how bad we get or how much the media laugh's and make fun of us...no matter how many bad draft picks we make and no matter how many Q'backs we go threw.
Just like other teams like SF/NYG/TB/ATL/CIN/ i could go on and on..but we will be back one day...I can wait....GO PHINS

OP, when have we had a successful camp like this? Uh, how about every season when our record is still 0-0. Fans eat training camp up before reality hits. Get some perspective.

Yeah, EVERY training camp is positive, for EVERY NFL Team too.

All the incidents mentioned were viewed as problems AFTER the season was a losing season. In Training camp they didn't seem like real problems.

When Cam-m0r0n was here the players raved about how much easier the practices were.

Success and failure in the NFL is a defined by the edge of a knife and by random dice rolls many times. The best coach and best team will fail if they get struck by injuries. Mediocre coaches can get hot, lousy GM's can get lucky with draft picks.

No one liked Tom Caughlin in Jacksonville or with the Giants but look at what he has accomplished.

Learning a new D will take it's toll in the early season, just like it did last year. However, if we get better play out of the CBs now that Marshall is not just pushing Davis, but replacing him (I see this as short term, as Vontae can freakin' play when he's right), it'll go a long way. I think Sean Smith will be the odd man out and soon. The guy just seems like a deer in headlights once the real bullets fly. Marshall and Vontae will start the season, and Sean Smith will be out of football by next summer. That reminds me, is Jason Allen still with Texas? Remember Brandon Marshall abusing him last year in week 2? God, Marshall was open all day and dropped so many passes! F that guy! I digress...

Here's a radical thought: I think Miami should trade Reggie Bush. It takes value to get value and unless the Dolphins are truly ready to make the playoffs and compete for the Superbowl, then he provides us little value on our roster other than costing us draft position. I've been trying to trade Dansby on here for 2 years, but I guess his inflated contract negates that option. But, if he is on the team, which we know he will be, then I'd like to see some plays where Thomas and Bush are both on the field. Thomas should be able to block with that size and creating confusion in the opponents D would be worth it. Were I Sherman, I would've REALLY stressed blocking for Daniel Thomas this camp; that and goal-line running. With Miller on board as kind of a Bush-clone, we need Thomas to do 'power back' duties.

I think you've missed last week's preseason game against Bucs where 1st team defensive unit was pathetic.

It was Ted Ginn Jr's "family" issue not John Beck's, while the refereed QB could be Trent Green. By the way, there's a TV Show on HBO called "Hard Knocks" where our OC almost claimed his TE are wasted spots on the roster and our most heralded receiver was fired after missing the only pass in his route and being arrested for head-butting his spouse.

Don't forget the best part, injury free so far and they should be in shape!

Ok, let's say we haven't lose anyone for the season, but Brian Hartline. David Garrard and Cameron Wake won't be today at the gridiron because of injuries.

I'm optimistic of Joe Philbin's work. The guy is making everything well and his first draft pick was a promising QB that adds a lot of chances of success. I hope everyone can enjoy great things on his Dolphins' era.
