For now, let's forget about overall pass blocking, hits and hurries, and just focus on how we keep Tannehill of his back fewer than 58 times by projecting where we are going to do that.

We had 7 team sacks on defenders being unblocked on the blitz. I'm thinking that Lazor and Benton can cut that to maybe 4.

Tannehill too 3 for holding the ball too long. That was good with Foles taking 6. The same would be fine.

TE's gave up 2 Don't see any room to improve.

RB's gave up 5. Maybe we can cut that to 2 or 3.

So, with little luck, we cut 5 sacks.

On to the OL, who gave up 41 sacks. This is not exact, with all our changes but, close enough.

McKennie & Martin gave up 14 sacks. Albert gave up 4 but, missed 4 games, and is coming to a new team. Let's **** him for 6, and w save 8.

Pouncey only gave up 2. Hope for the same.

Clabo gave up 11. I'm thinking that James, as a rookie, gives up 10.

Jerry gave up 5. The average for an OG is 4. I don't see Shelly being any better.

Cog gave up 6, Brenner 1, and Garner2. Maybe Dallas in between Albert and Pouncey, gives up 4.

Based on the above, we may be able to cut down to 40 but, that is being pretty optimistic.

A big plus would be the up tempo Lazor offense which requires the QB to get the ball out quickly. Less time needed to hold your block. Less time for the defender to get to the QB. Take another 5 off for that and we are in good shape.

Beat me to it. If this new offense goes according to plan, that should eliminate a lot of sacks compared to last season.

You're just out of shape in this off season DF. Like players, gotta stay in game shape year round. JK/LOL.

Ju'Waun James will give up less than 10...that's my guess. Pass blocking is his forte so I would say 6 for him. He's always been a RT, he's already played in a ZBS, he only needs to adjust to the strength and speed. He's going up against Wake and Shelby in practice mostly...two different players. Wake more speed...while Shelby more power. He's also receiving coaching from a very well respected O-line coach in Benton (something none of our O-line had last year). I say 6.

Lazor will also move Tannehill out of the pocket a lot more than Sherman did...I expect us to cut the sacks to under 40.

Hope you're right FF but, having 3 guys on the OL, who have basically not played before, scares the hell out of me. It could come together after 4-5 games, with many mistakes and penalties early. Chances are that teams are going to stay away from the left side, and focus their pass rush on the right with two unproven guys. IF our TE's can lend a hand, it would help.

The interior is a little shaky and inexperienced outside of Pouncy but i'll take Albert and James outside over quiter Martin and Clabo by a country mile.
Benton needs to earn his pay check and get the kids up to speed quickly.

IDK DT. Lane Johnson, with more talent, and playing in the Philly O had 10 sacks, and a VG OL with him. I have many concerns on the right side with two totally unproven guys.

James could be VG or, could be worse than Martin. Hard to have an opinion until we see him play vs NFL talent.

If we brought back the exact same line the over/under would be maybe 44. Something like that. Extremes very seldom repeat.

My friend Dave used to take advantage of that all the time in Las Vegas. He'd look for a dunce sportsbook manager who liked to throw up his own props, and was totally clueless toward the magnetic pull of normalcy.

I'm concerned about the Dallas Thomas/Billy Turner option at guard. I view them as basically the same player, types who have enough athletic ability to look good at times, but so erratic they can be narrow and beaten in a flash, essentially not out there at all on certain plays. You just hope those absentee plays aren't the vital ones.

What would you put the over/under on what we have now? Other than Albert, there is no clear cut improvement in pass blocking talent. It could be worse at the 3 positions.

only 1 positional improvement? So you think Clabo is better than James? And I'm not sure John Jerry is better than anyone. I'd say there are at least 3 positional upgrades, and factoring in a new OC, I'll go with 40 sacks this season.

Don't know yet, no one does, and 40 sacks is far from good, if we can get there.

going to go out on a limb and say miami will have a little over 2 sacks a game, in the regular season...35 total. barring injuries.
