I have been a Dolphins fan my entire life, but I have only been a veracious follower of the Fins and the NFL in general since around 2001 at the age of 14. Since that time, I have seen little more than poor quarterback play, awful coaching, wasted defensive talent, miserable offensive line blocking, and abysmal play in late game close situations.
To me, since I've been a hardcore fan, it did not get a whole lot worse than the home game against the Pats in 2002 when Olindo missed 2 field goals and David Patten toasted Sam Madison in overtime to score the winning touchdown. That game especially hurt at the end of the 02-03 season when we missed the playoffs at 9-7. But however bad that loss was, and regardless of all of the amazingly disappointing games I've seen since, this loss today ranks right up there with all time Dolphins regular season disappointments.
With 1:45 left on the clock, the Fins have the game in the bag against a winless team, and because of a combination of horrifically blown coverage and terrible defensive alignments, the defense allows a game winning touchdown with basically no time left, rendering me speechless.
I understand that our expectations were not necessarily high about this season, but does anyone else feel the monumental let down that I am feeling about this game?
I mean Christ, I really don't think it gets a lot worse than that. And I've seen some horrible stuff as a fan.

Ive been a fan for 22 years and that was one of the worst.. I was yelling at the top of my lungs watch the qb sneak before he snapped the ball and what does he do. boom qb sneak untouched.. our defence should have picked up on that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been a fan for 25 years. This does not even get in my top 10.

For those who think this team will make the playoffs it hurts. For those who know that this is a stepping stone season, it means alot less.

As a football coach, I can tell you loses like this are actually good.

It's right up there, it really is. Any time you lose a game pretty much on the final play it's just horrible.

Well in the time you have been a fan we have had terrible Qb's starting. One of which started 5 years too long. We have had coaches that haven't had a clue on how to run a team. And that is just the icing.

In our history we have had worse losses that stung much more than this. Anybody recall a certain Chargers/Dolphins game that went into overtime once or twice. I think I had no nails left after that game. You want to talk about speechless that game did me in.

This is one of the worst ones I've seen as a Dolphins fan. It's right up there with the Jets Monday nighter and the Patriots game you mentioned. By the way, I think Mare had a third kick blocked in that game. It is truly sickening to be a Dolphins fan. Let's not forget giving up an 11 point lead in New England with 4 minutes left in the game. A win would've put us in the playoffs. Why am I cursed to cheer for this team?

Not even in the top 10. We are a 1-15 last year and Houston was 8-8. They should be 2-3. It was a great game and it's not like we were dominating through the game and then blew it at the end.

The worst has to be the loss to Minnesota in week 16. Im not sure what year it was, but I'm sure most of you dolphans know what Im talking about. Gary Andersen, VERY OLD, hitting a game winning 50 yard field goal to win the game. I cant forget seeing chris carter on the sidelines in a dolphins uniform, telling all his teammates and laughing that his former teammate Andersesn, will not make the field goal. After an impressive week 15 win vs. the raiders, the phins laid an egg vs. the vikings, and then sealed their fate with the week 17 loss vs the pats.

I agree that was in 2002-03 I believe

It ranks number 2 for me.

1.Miami Dolphins Vs NY Jets - Trailing 30–7 in the fourth quarter, Vinny Testaverde led the Jets to score 23 consecutive points to tie the game, to win the game 40–37. It was the second biggest fourth quarter comeback in NFL history and biggest comeback in Jets' history.

I had a break down watching this game, I layed motionless for about 5 mins, my girl was scared..

2. Was today's game...

Anyone who ranks this as a "top loss" hasn't watched many fins' games. This was a Week 6 loss on the road to a team that quite honestly has more offensive talent than we do...at least at WR. The Texans can move the ball downfield on a lot of teams in this league.

It was definitely painful...the last drive was pretty gut wrenching. CBS switched to the game (from Bengals/Jets) during the last drive and my heart was ready to explode. I've actually gotten over it though because I realize what this team is this year. I want this franchise to get back to the point where it's respectable, and that's all I really want out of this year.

BTW...Can we please find a go-to receiver? PLEEEEEEEEEEEEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Honestly for me it wasn't even close to the worst loss..believe me I'd tell you if it was...fact is I wasn't expecting a whole lot this year...

This lost is behind all the heart breaking losses to the jets and new england in more meaningful games but it really wont be easy to get over.

I have been a hardcore fan for 20 damn years. Anyone that considers this just another loss has gotten WAY TOO USED TO LOSING!

I've been a dolphin fan longer than that. No question it was a difficult loss. I turned the TV off right before Schaub crossed the goal line, and my forehead was planted on my dining room table for a good minute afterward. The OP put this loss in the context of all of the Dolphins top losses...which it clearly is not. Hell, IMO, the Monday night meltdown against the Jets doesn't even come close to Stoyo's missed FG against the Chargers. That game stuck with me for weeks.

The reality is that we were fortunate to be in the lead that late considering the way our defense was getting smoked most of the day.
