As a pass rush specialist, I do not see him taking Porter's or JT's playing time. So, where does he fit this year?

Wake is a pass rushing specialist. He played DE in the 4-3 but he can also play OLB. I think he will be a 3rd and long OLB to start off with and JT will play some DE in the same set. Then again Wake might be the DE and JT the OLB opposite Joey.

Another thought is that JT is the better all around player and he takes over on 1st down for Joey, then he and Roth leaves on 3rd and a fresh Joey takes over for JT and Wake takes over for Roth. This would put JT out on the field playing run/pass and Joey just playing pass. The reason I bring this up is Joey sucks vs the run and JT is pretty darn good. I don't think Joey would go for that but it could be a short term thing just to keep him fresh.

One thing is for sure, we have a lot more options than last year which should make us better later in the season and give us more ways to pressure the QB. We will be more versitile as well as having more depth.

In a year or so I can see Wake taking over for Porter when Joey starts to get a little longer in the tooth.

If Wake is good, he may beat out JT...but I doubt it. I could see him in special packages though where Wake, JT, and JP are all on the field. One of them would essentially replace an ILB and they would then have a number of zone blitz options where it wouldn't be clear who was coming and who was covering on any given down....pure CHAOS....I love it!!!

he's the backup WOLB in our 3-4 base defence (won't get much reps here imo, barring injuries)

he's also the backup DE in our four man front nickel and dime packages (i'm not even sure we have a 4-1-6 dime package... well, i don't recall seeing it last year, but i know we have a 3-2-6 dime package, and wake wouldn't play here IMO)

JT and JP will be starters on nickel and dimes... wake will get some reps though

yea I cant wait to see what they have up their sleeves. Our F.O. ALWAYS makes the most of the players on the roster so if Wake is any good he'll be in position to make some plays

He played some at DT in the CFL as well.

I could very well see him playing some DT on passing downs here.

His ability to play inside on passing downs is part of why i think they let Vonnie Holiday go this year.

JT was asked if he thought him and JP and Wake would ever be on the field together at the same time and he said absolutely,,,,,,,,well the only way that can happen is on a passing down with Wake playing as a DT.

ala Kiwanuka and Tuck for the NY Giants.

And don't forget Michael Strahan was there when they won the Super Bowl.

I'm thinking JT, JP, and Wake could very well be just as good as that bunch at getting after the QB.

I hope you are right because last year I saw no creativity in thier blitz packages.:err:

I can see Wake playing on early downs in place of Porter, who was far from great against the run. Wonder if Joey would have a problem with that.

Clever answer. LOL However, what about ST's? :)
