It's hasn't been a headline grabbing free agency period for the Miami Dolphins, but quietly I believe Grier's made some good moves.

James Daniels is the biggest addition to date, as someone who will start for Miami at left or right guard. If not for an injury, I believe his price tag would have been doubled. A three-year $21 million deal could be a steal.

Bringing back Tyrel Dodson might be the second best move. He played well for the Dolphins after they picked up him up off waivers from Seattle. Elijah Campbell was a core special team player that Grier brought back and could compete at safety. I think there's upside there.

Nick Westbrook-Ikhine is exactly the type of wide receiver add Miami needed, giving the team size opposite Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. His nine touchdowns last season with Tennessee is a very impressive accomplishment.

The two safeties additions Ashtyn Davis and Ifeatu Melifonwu both have an opportunity to start, or provide depth. It's kind of the same strategy Grier used last season at the defensive tackle position, flood the position and someone will emerge. I expect Grier will look to the draft to add here as well. A good option for pick 48, if I were guessing.

Larry Borom is a huge offensive tackle, who likely provides depth but could compete at right guard.

Alexander Mattison likely competes for a roster spot. As a bigger runner, known more for his blocking, Mattison has a shot.

The addition of Zach Wilson at quarterback is honestly a bit of a head scratcher. I know he's always had potential, but he hasn't shown much to indicate he can help if Tua goes down.

There have been a few other moves, including bringing back Liam Eichenberg, Quinton Bell, Jackson Carman and Dee Eskridge. Those are bottom of the roster types for the most part on prove it deals.

So, what does the team need as we get closer to the draft and cap money is disappearing? Here's my thoughts, in ranked order of the top three needs.

1. Corner
Kader Kohou, Ethan Bonner, Storm Duck, Jason Maitre, Cam Smith and Isaiah Johnson are currently the corners in competition to start opposite Jalen Ramsey. Kohou's pass defense grade is ranked highly by PFF, but I think he's better suited at slot or as a third corner. There's definitely young talent here that can step up. Smith was a 2nd round pick, but honestly hasn't shown much. Duck and Bonner both saw playing time last year. Johnson is 6-3 and showed well in training camp a year ago.

2. Defensive Line
Zach Seiler and Chop Robinson are the only "for sures." It's an absolute great draft class for defensive tackles, and several promising pass rushers as well. This is my guess for pick 13, or maybe a slight trade down. Walter Nolen, Kenneth Grant and Derrick Harmon are all probably top 20ish picks.

3. Offensive Line
I think how Miami feels about Patrick Paul could determine how high an offensive lineman is selected. As it stands, with the additions of Daniels and Borom I think that lessens the need to go offensive line early, but it's still a need. If Grier and McDaniel are uncertain on Paul, Will Campbell and Kevin Banks are two potential picks at 13. Both have been talked about as possible guard transitions as well. Jared Wilson, the center from Georgia, and teammate Tate Ratledge are two I like potentially in the 3rd round.

Safety, tight end and maybe a developmental quarterback are also positions that could be improved.

Poorly constructed roster. Massive issues at OL/DL. Weak secondary on top of that.

Predict we win games against poor teams because of Tua (if he stays healthy), and skill guys like Achane, Hill, Waddle. But we will once again get curb stomped by good teams on both sides in the trenches.

This team ATM is worse then last years team.

whats funny and interesting is this..

Ashtyn Davis and Ifeata > Jevon Holland and Corpse

Daniels > Liam

Brooks and Tyler > Brooks and Walker

Westbrook > Corpse aka 4th receiver.

Zach Wilson > corpses.

so, that being said we have three desperate need positions at Corner, Def Tackle and left guard.

we have needs at safety, linebacker, all around Y tight end.

I think he's done well... he's found players who should work, and made it so we don't HAVE to reach for any specific position. The one area that feels neglected... at least to me... is DT/Big Edge. We've signed no one new, and actually let Hand walk.

If he doesn't sign anyone else, I think that's our biggest need at this point.

As far as the new Safety's go I liked them out of college, the question is can they stay healthy. I like the Daniels, and Westbrook signing as well.

1)As far as where to go in draft, I'm getting the 2 Shemar's mixed up is it Stewart or Turner that we are interested in and rising up the boards?
2) Grier promised to fix oline bringing in Daniels is a positive, resigning Eich a negative. You mentioned Ratledge who I like as well. Still need to get online fixed.
3) Alot of good TE's in this draft, and yes Safety is still a need but maybe not as high as before we signed Davis and Obi

I could see Grier rolling with the corners on the roster. I believe DT will be the first pick.

I love the short yardage potential with Mattison.

Ikhine is a bigger receiver who can block very well. Something that's been missing since McDaniel's 1st year and a half, in Miami. He also appears to find a way to get open. Is he another 711?

Daniel, is a perfect fit for the scheme. A guy who'd have commanded much more money if not for injury. He's tough and really mirrors defenders.

The two new safeties could become upgrades over prior players. It depends on health and if they can continue the upswing in their coverage abilities.

Pharaoh Brown is an excellent blocker from his TE position. A welcomed addition.

Borom isn't an OT. I think he's been brought in to play OG, a postion he'll, be able to better utilize his enormous power, in the run game.

The most concerning thing to me is that Miami is still going to be coached the exact same.

This roster is a house of cards, just like last year. There is NO depth, any injuries result in it all falling apart

There's usually hope with the depth after injuries, at least. Unknowns have a chance to actually be good. I don't even want the current depth on the PS. Total waste of roster spots.

I like your thinking but am going to push back on some things.

I don't think either safety Grier signed has the slightest chance to be a quality starter for more than 8 or 10 games. Their injury histories and their relative lack of experience as starting safety are problems for us. There has to, or should be, another proven vet coming in. I think Patrick McMorris has ability but there has to be more talent brought into the safety room, probably by the end of the second day and with a veteran who can help this group gel.

The lack of cornerback and LT talent is scary. #13 has to go towards one of these spots because it was impossible and too expensive to get either position in free agency. not sure Grier would know a good LT or corner if they bit him on his ass but we better get lucky in the draft. I don't trust that Paul will be ready or that the long line of UDFAs and late round picks can or should start opposite Ramsey.

Here's what I don't get about what happened this week. what was Grier's plan- to sign 2-3 free agents a day that we don't know much about, are generally under 30 but outside of Daniels and NWI, have largely been forgettable players in this league? The more research I do on Borom the less I see ANY plan that makes sense. He has performed in the league much like the fan favorite who was re-signed last night. Neither OL signing, imo, gives us quality depth or adds much talent to the line. I think Butch Barry has done everything he can to make Liam better but it hasn't worked. I don't expect more from Borom.

We signed 6-7 guys this week, I like one of them (Daniels) think the big receiver could be fine and think the re-sign of Dodson is good. However what is the point of Ashtyn Davis, Jackson Carman (absolutely sucks, gimme 2 more games of him and he wins a Lifetime Dallas Thomas award), Eich, Pharoah the TE, The MILF Hunter, Dee Eskridge, Melifonwu? I know we're talking short term deals for mostly not a lot of money but couldn't we have signed 3 better players in their place who had a real chance to start at S, G and DT? And don't get me started on letting Hand go. Just another unforced error by the front office. He was good and dependable and we're looking a scraps now.

This is a HC and GM fighting for their lives and they apparently got together, dropped some acid and pulled names out of a hat and this is a roster that looks like it was constructed by a hack.

Last year there was a plan to bring in low cost vets in Brooks, Campbell and J Smith. It worked, I don't see a similar track with the guys we signed in the last week.

Good points. Miami was never going to be a major player in free agency this year with the cap space. At least IMO.

The team got a solid starter at guard in Daniels, probably a third receiver, and mostly depth.

The draft is where it's at. Grier has to have a strong draft.
