Personally, I think he'd have been taken after Sanchez, but more so due to the Jest desperate reach in order to sell PSLs, spurred on by the media's infatuation with their flavor of the month coverboy, than based on competitive professional upside.

I said third but right after voted I realized that Raheem Morris is an idiot and also a big Freemman fan so Henne would have been the 4th or maybe 5th since we wanted to draft a 6 foot qb to run the ball.I still cant believe that the Lions passed on White at number one.

Agree with that, think TB would have went with Freeman regardless. Would have been interesting as to what the Fins would have done.

But seriously Lockz, I think its time to build a bridge and get over the White pick. Many people, including myself, did not like the pick, but what can we do about it like?

I hate the pick and will say it until proven otherwise. I dont think Parcells is the god that he is made to be on this board. I hope Im wrong on White but Im not going to act like it was a good pick.

I was one of the few that never wavered on my opinion of the John Beck and Jason Allen picks.
Wvdolphin actually liked the pick at first.
You also dont see me doing a celebration dance because I was right on the wasted picks either.
Please make me wrong. The white pick seriously gives me doubt about the good direction of this team.

3rd qb in 1st round.
personal take he would end up being the best.
I dont like Stafford Sanchez doesnt seem like a big time qb to me and I make myself believe whatever i want.

I didn't like the White pick at first, but I think he has the potential to be dynamic out of the spread (more options than the 'WildPat'). For this season, White will probably play only a few snaps a game, and hopefully we can get some big plays. In the years to come, though, I can see him playing as much as 30% of the time on offense.

At that point, the defense would have two fully realized offenses to prepare for.

. . .

As for the Henne question, I think he'd have been selected after Sanchez and Stafford, but I think he'll be better than either. I think when people look back on their careers, Henne will be better than Matt Ryan.

If Henne is as good as you think which I hope he will be, it will be damn shame to lose 30 percent of snaps to Pat White wouldnt you think.

Pretty bold statement there. As it stands, Matt Ryan has already had a pro-bowl calibur season, while Henne has done noting. Look at it this way. The Falcons and Ravens were confertable enough to start their QB's in their rookie season, while the Fins jumped at the chance of picking up Pennington. Tells me that Henne was not ready to be thrown in as the starter, therefore behind both Ryan and Flacco in terms of developement.

I'm not knocking Henne, but to live up to what Ryan has shown thus far and overtake him will take an enormous amount of effort by Chad Henne.

I think he'd still be a 2nd round pick.....but early in the 2nd round.....as in....before Pat White at pick #44...

You have to keep in mind....Brian Brohm was chosen ahead of Henne too...although I disagreed with that assessment to begin with....Henne was the second best QB prospect behind Matt Ryan in the 2008 NFL draft IMO....ahead of Flacco...

Not because Henne was a rare QB prospect....because he wasn't....he was simply one of the most experienced and battle tested quarterbacks to come out of college...and possessed above average physical tools.....not to mention coming from as pro style of an offense in college as you can come from at Michigan...something that can't ever be stressed enough when evaluating QB's and projecting them to the next level...

Flacco was hard to evaluate accurately since he played at a lower level....and took every snap primarily from the shotgun....even though his arm strength was apparent....he had major flaws in his footwork....which Cam Cameron and Jedd Fisch were able to remedy rather quickly...

Everyone (even those that do it for a living in the NFL) evaluates quarterbacks differently....and it's why misevaluating quarterbacks and selecting them high in the draft has gotten more GM's and coaches fired than anything.....

Henne was a 4 year starter at a major college program and played in a pro style offense.....he was as ready to step in and play as Matt Ryan was....and MORE than Joe Flacco was...

He's got a lot of catching up to do ever be better than Matt Ryan....Henne's tendancy is also to stare down his receivers.....it's a lot of little things that Ryan does better than Henne that the average fan doesn't see....
