In my humble opinion, when considering whom to hire as HC, the candidate should at minimum, have proved himself as a co-ordinator.

Therefor, when considering every current NFL co-ord (offensive, defensive or special teams), who has got the most out of the roster they were dealt?

My shout.........Rob Chudzinski.

The one that stands out to me is Mike Zimmer. He had a defense full of cast offs from other teams and no elite players, and he has fielded a top 10 unit in 2 of the past three years with those players. He loses Jonathan Joseph this year to free agency, and he still fields a top 10 defensive unit.

joseph was a beast in houston this year...outside of darren sproles maybe the best free agent addition in football...cinci doesn't have any superstars on that d but they have a real up and coming dt in atkins and some edge rush players...

i like vic also...but that team is loaded with talent...a lot of which i'm sure he had a say in them getting...aldon smith navarro bowman and i bet he's the one that wanted to get carlos rogers who is playin at a much higher level in san fran than he ever did in washington

I do agree with Zimmer.......best D co-ord in my mind, but when you look at Carolina, 6th in pts scored, with a rookie QB & no recognised no.2 recv, he still tops in my mind.

McCoy is probably my least favorite HC candidate, but he is the coodinator that got the most out of his roster. Other than McGahee, they really dont have any playmakers. They traded Lloyd and released Orton, and went with a QB that completes 46% of his passes and still managed to have an offense tied with Miami statistically.

Zimmer for sure. Vic Fangio. And others.
We have to give DaBol some credit too. I was quite surprised at the changes and performance of the offense, especially after we got rid of Ricky and Ronnie. He eventually utilized the players we have. He did some good things and should be given some props.

While ive been vocal about Chud, if the question is "who did the most with the least" that would undoubtably be Mike Zimmer. Without question.

The Bengals rode a defense full of no name players into the playoffs despite playing in one of the tougher divisions in football. That was after losing their best player to free agency. Zimmer did an outstanding job.

You don't lead the league in rushing without a darn good O-line and Eric Decker and Demaryius Thomas are two very good WRs who are only getting better. IMO the offense underperformed. They were 1-4 with Orton when they were running a conventional offense. They put Tebow in and went 7-4 with an unconventional offense where Tebow was at his best when the plays broke down...not by design of the OC. The last 3 games of the season defenses started to catch on to how to play Tebow and they struggled and lost and the offense wasn't scoring crap.

IMO Zimmer probably did the most with the least. Even Chud had DeAngelo Williams and Jon Stewart at RB, Jeremy Shockey and Greg Olson at TE and Steve Smith at WR who still can't be covered one-on-one. Not to mention Cam Newton who threw for over 4000 yards and ran for another 700+. Still almost 6500 yards of offense is impressive...but he had plenty of talent.

This says a lot more about Miami than it does about Denver.

I can't understand this board full of people who a year ago were whining we have a stone age era passing game and wanted Dan Henning fired are now advocating bringing in a guy in McCoy who is not just a disciple of Henning having coached under him for five years but who if anything has an even bigger hard on for running the ball than his mentor. It's ridiculous.

I honestly think people's preferences for OC's often come down to the amount they disrespect that team's quarterback. People disrespected the ability for rookies like Cam Newton and Andy Dalton to perform right away, so they want Jay Gruden and Rob Chudzinski made head coaches (rather than re-thinking their evaluations of those quarterbacks or looking at those teams in context). People don't think Tim Tebow can tie his shoes so they want McCoy. Carmichael and Philbin run stratospheric offenses so they're on a different level but the rest of these guys are just getting picked because people don't like their quarterbacks.

I only compared his offense to Miami because people here are familiar with the players on Miami.

And nobody is advocating bringing in McCoy. The question was "who got the most out of their players". If you are saying McCoy should not even have been considered as a coordinator who gets the most out of his players, then you didnt watch any Denver games this year. The question the OP asked was not about what style you prefer, it was about efficiency.

I happen to really like Zimmer but to be fair they didn't beat Pitt or Baltimore they didn't beat a single playoff bound team and only beat one team w/ a winning record(9-7 Tennessee).
