With last year's draft ??? It seems the problems are recurring. The OL, The DL, the DBs, the LBs .. On and on and on.

Nothing was ever solved since Ireland was in charge. Only more holes were created by him

Ozzy rules!!

I think it is too early to tell. While 2013 was disappointing with our rookie class, I think Jordan, Taylor, Davis and Gisilee all could still develop. Got a long way to go however.....

Nothing . Had Ireland actually gone for players we needed instead of reaching on a guy that I think could have gone later. And yeah I am talking about Jordan! Can he be a good player in miami hard to tell right. Now but I like that he wants to get better since he realizes he was bad!

I look at last year's holes and the ones that I recall being most prominent were:

1. LT when we let Jake Long go
2. WR which we upgraded with Wallace and Gibson (and Gibson worked out better than I had anticipated before he went down with a season ending injury, so kudos there)
3. RT because we had Martin playing there ... but Clabo was horrible when we had to slide protection to Martin's LT and pretty decent when Martin was off the team and McKinnie acted like a normal LT
4. CB which we struck gold in a healthy Brent Grimes and got the best play so far out of Nolan Carroll ... and Dmitri Patterson was fantastic those 4 or so games he actually played ... we were very fortunate at CB and I doubt we can duplicate that
5. S well we had a good one in Jones and a shaky one in Clemons, but Jones had a disappointing year and Clemons had a surprisingly good one ... so not sure what to think exactly. I still have faith in Jones
6. Our Achilles Heel last year was lack of takeaways, but the increased pass rush from Vernon and improved DB play led to a lot more takeaways and fixed this problem. It also included LB play but that was hit and miss
7. LB play changed but seemed to get worse not better.
8. RB while Miller wasn't as good as Bush, it was really the OL that failed to give our running game a chance, so I can't really grade Miller. When he reached the secondary his speed created chunk yardage though.
9. TE we had a solid but not great TE who was a good blocker and decent pass catcher. Our TE position became incapable of blocking for the run or pass and sporadically chunk yardage with a low reliability and high predictability.
10. RG we generated no running game with Jerry and Martin on the right side. That never really changed with Clabo.

Our draft did not pay benefits the first year. But, Jordan showed exceptional flashes of his pass rush potential. Jamar Taylor will be a good pick if he can stay healthy .. but that's looking like a very big if. Pretty much, we got nothing of consequence else out of that draft. Even Sturgis was poor once he lost confidence. By contrast, Lane Johnson played well after a few rough games early in the season and looks like he could have been our solution at LT. Similarly, Tyler Eifert looks every bit the red zone and 3rd down target we wanted.

There were some projects drafted that may pay long term benefits last year...but Ireland failed miserably to ensure we had a good O-line, particullarly with the loss of Jake Long.

That was the number one factor IMO behind this team failing to make the playoffs......we used two premium picks to draft a project, failed to pull the trigger on a top left tackle trade for Branden Albert or get involved in the Eugene Monroe trade.

with all the money we had to spend in free agency, and all those draft pics we had, I think Ireland failed miserably in upgrading the overall team.

We didn't solve one problem except figuring out another way to waste a second round draft pick by trading up

You're missing the point.

By Ireland having a woeful draft, he basically got himself fired.

Problem solved.

CB's and WR in FA and draft.

Just becuase rookies didnt play much doesnt mean we didnt solve the long term problem. The long term is what it should be all about.

I will be laughing when the CB's start playing well and making this point. You see only what you want to see, but your definitely not alone.

Oh and sims will be a good TE. Jordan, well, he has the tools. People are way off here I think.

so you think every pick was a waste and Jordan a bust? Is that what your saying?

Im saying last year's draft solved no problems last year.
Im saying when we look back years from now in this draft we wont have one impact starter.
Im saying Deon Jordan was overdrafted not a bust but nothing special

Im not counting the kicker I think he will be a good kicker but drafted , undrafted kickers come and go

No. What I am saying is that with the 3rd overall pick he should have played more downs, with our 2nd round pick he should have at least been a starter, same as our 3rd rounder, he should have had some influence. But no, Ireland drafted a rookie class full of injury clouds, which happens a lot to miami, or they didnt show enough to contribute to a suffiicient level. I think Jordon will be a star, if he stays injury free. taylor i liked but again, his injury history concerns me. In the end, there lack of production and other issues forced Ross' hand.

I klnow that long term is the goal, but lack of production from 1st & 2nd rounders have me concerned.
