I know that most of you are Phin fans because of where you live. Some of us have become fans due to following certain players out of school.
I am a Beck fan. I search every message for references to how he's doing. I graduated from BYU and have followed the team for over 20 years. Beck IMO is the best QB we've had since Young (and I think he may actually end up being better). I really want him to succeed and prove to the world that BYU is good because they are good and not because of the conference they're in (you have no idea how frustrated we are that we can't get into a better one--we outdraw 60% of BCS teams, have top notch facilities, usually place in the low 20s in the Sears cup, and still can't get in. We know why--It's the mormon thing, no sunday play, not a research school, etc. but it is still frustrating). Although Detmer was a great college QB, I never thought he would successfully make the transition to Pro. Same was true with Walsh. I think Beck will and I believe he will end up being as good as they come.
But now as I read this board, I'm also beginning to get excited about the entire rookie class and Miami in general. I figure I'll be watching and wanting Ginn to be a pro-bowler too. I very happy that Beck ended up where he did and this board is filled with class people. (Jets trolls excluded).
For those who became fans due to a player or players, who was it and why?
For those who are long time fans how do you feel about us who came due to a player (and may eventually leave if they don't pan out)?
