You think our F.O. and coaching staff can scout and evaluate talent well enough to take a 1st round QB next year?
Please keep in mind that drafting a QB in the first round means that you're passing on improving the defense in a big way, passing on improving or even keeping the offensive line equal to this season's offensive line.
There goes the impact LB, the impact CB, the impact DE. You're praying for a later round miracle to do this, probably not gonna happen.
You're stuck with another year at sucking at all those positions to get a rookie QB in here who will have to deal with a horrible offensive line just like Tannhill has had to deal with his whole career.
So, that just increases the importance of drafting a QB with the one trait that Tannehill doesn't have or will never have. Feel for the game. It's the single most difficult trait to assess.
It would require almost Yoda-like intuition by a GM or scout to see this among the pounds of flesh currently playing QB at colleges across the country.
Honestly, I think the Eagles got lucky that the beefcake they drafted is even this good. I think Carson Wentz's ability to see the field, feel pressure, and make plays is something that transcends Philly's wildest dreams. No one thought he'd be this good this fast. They were gonna play him anyway and take their lumps but they've just lucked out.
No one in Dallas thought Dak Prescott would have the kind of poise, awareness or playmaking ability that he has. He lasted into the 4th round. Dallas can pat themselves on the back but it was pure luck for them that no one else saw him make plays in college and show this kind of awareness to compliment the athletic ability to use it. I mean, they saw it, but then let the importance of 'measurable' or 'strength of schedule' interfere with their own judgement.
So, we're gonna need Miami's front office and coaching staff to have the vision to draft THE QB to save our franchise, a guy who can fight through all the roadblocks to success he's gonna have piled up against him that were put there by Ireland, Philbin and tens of various bums over the years including Tannenbum.
Wow. Good luck with this. Gase was so smart he chose the Dolphins, in part, because he thought Tannehill could be The Guy, which doesn't bode well for his ability to judge talent. Hate to say it but Philbin was ahead of the curve last year regarding his disappointment and threat to bench Tannehill. The dude is just a clod. We have to move on. I don't even care what we get for him. He can't play. His brain runs in slow motion.
So, what if we don't take a QB early? What if we do our best to fill out every other important position and use Moore and Doughty next season while a QB taken with a later pick is getting groomed. Then, maybe, if we can have a roster that's worth a crap by 2018 we take a high-pick QB then.
I just don't see a point in risking a 1st-round draft choice on a QB to play behind a steaming pile of **** offensive line with a steaming pile of **** defense.
I also start trading our players for draft picks. Landry? Bye. You have value but you can't help this team win and you're never going to have more value than you do now. We have these other WRS that we stupidly used early-round picks on. Might as well make them earn something. Then we can get Grant on the field hopefully doing Wes Welker stuff.
Brandon Albert? Bye. Tunsil already took your job and we can lose with you. Boom, should be able to get a 2nd for Landry and a 3rd for Albert to make up for the potentially stupid choices we made in this last draft, (though they allow us to be able to trade Landry and have a really good back on the roster in Drake).
What do ya think?
