Probably all of the above.

Aikman probably made Ross listen to him tear McDummy apart again.

Ross had to listen to McDummy reflect on 2025 failures and his plan to make 2026 better and the plan was “like, well, ummmm, you see, like, if we score more points than the other team we win”.

First couple of GM interviews zoom call dropped after Ross confirmed McDummy was returning.

Finally Harbaugh became available and made it known he would not entertain a team with a HC.

Word I heard was Ross was uncomfortable with the Tuesday conversation with McG about the remedies for the team from the Goober. I'm sure Harbaugh becoming available helped move the decision along. I am also reasonably sure that interviewed candidates for the GM position had 'reservations' about being tied to this 'Coach'.
From who?

Was it Ross? He ultimately has to pull the trigger, but I think he did not get there on his own because McDaniel would have been fired during the season or right on Black Monday.

I don't think it was primarily Aikman's input, because McDaniel would have been gone on Black Monday too.

Therefore I am left with two choices:

They have a backdoor deal with Harbaugh already, and had to announce the McDaniel firing to get Harbaugh in here.

OR

The interview candidates themselves fired McDaniel. They all came in with huge reservations about working with him. They may have even lost candidates, like Alex Halaby, who could have said "no way no how will I work with him for even a year" and excused himself from the process. It is really odd, Halaby, with his background, did not make it to the final 4, but Champ Kelly, of all people did.

It could be Harbaugh, but I am going with the interview candidates. It is a tough call.

Once again, this feels like not the most straightforward of processes. That is for sure.

The timing of the Alexander interview request suggests that there is a backdoor deal with Harbaugh.

I also don’t think that Aikman and Sullivan are big fans of McDaniel and I’m sure have expressed that to Ross. Also, according to Joe Rose, the majority of dolphin alumni wanted him fired and I’m sure they have expressed that to Ross.

I think Ross was looking for a reason to keep McD because he liked him but there really are no reasons to keep him.

Who cares?

He is fired (thank god) and Mike is now McBurgerking!!

Make sure he gets the fries out on time before their nuked beyond recognition and customers are screaming for their money back.

you will care because we are going to have a new GM and HC and McDaniel firing is obviously part of this process

Ross with advice. He waited to see if Harbaugh would become available (why it didn’t happen on Black Monday). It doesn’t mean we will land Harbaugh, but it gives us all the options available.
