During all this euphoria (sp?) over the Dolphins play, has anyone paused and thought that if you had to chose one person/change that is responsible for where the Fins are now? Yes, Norv Turber was a great addition, yes Ricky is all that (hey Saints, he can hit the big one, too!), and McMichael is a beast, and the OL is kicking some serious a$$ (Jamie Nails is a beast!), and so on and so on, etc, etc, etc...

IMHO I think the credit needs to go to Dave Wannstedt for getting all this together behind the scenes. He was much maligned in Chicago because he was simply surrounded by some very bad help. He has one of the best if not the best winning %age since 2000. He knows how to press all the right buttons with the Fins (ie: Last week before the NYJ game, he brings in Pat Riley for a little motivational change). When JJ was here, he wanted to cut himself off completletly from the Dolphins glorious past. Wanny came in and made a point of keeping in touch w/Coach Shula and honoring the past. Little things like this are just an example of the kind of tweaking that has helped Wanny win here.

Anytime there's talk of who the great coaches are in todays game, Wanny is never mentioned. You get self styled geniuses like Martz and Spurrier who are so blinded by thier own arrogance that they fail to see anything else. Wanny's always kept an even keel, win or lose. I've never seen Wanny blame a player after a loss (are you listening Mike Martz?) and he's always shown class.

So, yes, there are a lot of additions to the Fins that have helped them win but I think Wanny deserves his just due as the guy that's put it all together. What do you think?

Go Fins!!!!

Good post! I am a Wannstadt fan. I must say last year he pissed me off a few times but overall I think he's a good coach and is going a great job.

Dolphans know that Rick and Wanne deserve most of the credit for bringing and most importantly keeping the talent to produce this years' team, but we will have to have the best record in the NFL for outsiders to give Wanne his due IMO

Thanks, LCP. Before anyone thinks I've elevated him to sainthood, I still think he made two mistakes that are still affecting us:

1. Should've kept Richmond Webb. A great player and a great person.
2. The jury is still out on Jamar Fletcher. Let's see what happens.

Go Fins!!!

I would come back and say that we could not have kept Webb for the $3mil and I write Fletcher off as a bad pick since we got CC in the 2nd round and the jury is still out on him.

Well maybe the Webb situation was more a problem with the system than a fault of Wanny's. IMHO there should be some exception made to the salary cap for veteran players who have been with the same team thier whole careers. It's os strange seeing him in that pathetic Bengals uniform.

As far as Fletch, I don't know yet. When I see Drew Breese making plays I get to thinking what we could've had. But I guess a lot of teams are thinking that about Randy McMichael too. Let's see. I am willing to give Fletch this yr to show something. This is a make or break year for him.

I think that is a great idea...

if nothing else, Fletch and Cousins in 2001 has got/gotten enough playing time to justfiy drafting a CB. Just the fact that Fletcher could not beat out Cousins (whom I really liked) is what raised all the red flags. He has 2002 to make up for that

Schedule makers for givin ya your easy games....yet once again in September so ya can ejaculate prematurely and not even viagra can help in the playoffs

I think Buffalo should get alot of the credit for providing a great example of what not to do.

the Jets who we had lost to 8 in a row and the Bills did lose to and the Colts in Indy is not exactly a cake walk

I have always wondered about which is most important to a running game. Is it the running back, or the line. Ricky said a running back makes an offensive line. I'm not one to argue with "da Man", but maybe he was just trying to take the pressure off the line.

It seems hard for me to understand how any running back can be good when the defense is getting penetration. On the other hand, a back who can make quick decisions and find the holes makes a line look pretty good.

So, it must be some of each. So, I vote for the O-Line and Ricky!

Nope....and when we add 'em all up at the end of the year...we won't make a big deal out of our two victories over Buffalo either....you know, we'll be sticking with the "NFL calibur" teams only.
