This question may have been raised already. Who got the better deal and who got the better player? We get Grove from the raiders and they get Satele. Did the raiders do this to save money or is Satele a better player then Grove?

The Raiders are largely a tire fire of an organization led by a man who still shows up to the office in a track suit with Dapper Dan smeared all over his head.

The Dolphins are a proud organization with one of the brightest minds in the game today running the show.

I somehow feel as if we have the upper-hand here.

Well we had to run to the sides of are line just to run the ball last year, with Grove we won't have to just go left or right we can now run up the gut as well.

Good players retain their draft status and in only two years Satele went down two rounds. From a 2 to a 4.

The money we gave Grove shows he retained his draft status.

i think it puts us in a good spot on day 2 of the draft. gives us a better look on our pick in that spot, but we need to draft a center in the 6th round. we will go CB#1 WR#2 LB#2 NT#3.......2nd day we will get the fastest RB available. then we look for our depth center .....

I dunno, right now I think we got the short end of the stick.

We paid damn near 6 million a year for a guy who hasn't lived up IMO to his draft status due to injury damn near his whole career, while we gave up a promising young Center who started all 32 possible games he could have played, plus a playoff game. On top of that, the Raiders get Satele at a low second round pick salary and all we get is a 6th round pick and a move up in the 4th round.

Now maybe it is a invalid point, because maybe our front office didn't like Satele anywhere on this line . . . but the Raiders won this battle. It is cool tho, we have won our battles in the past as well. I still rather keep both and keep Satele as a backup guard/center at worst, that is me tho.

we'll know a lot more who the better player is this season. both Grove and Satele are going to play in a system that fits their strength now. i can't say i'm happy with what we got in return for Satele, but he didn't fit. we are gradually getting rid off all the pieces that don't fit in.

We got a BP player to start at Center, we got rid of a none BP player and improved our draft status and added a pick..... to me thats an easy one because it makes us one step closer to the line up the FO is trying to create and we have another pick. It doesn't matter how Satele plays for Oakland, it matters that he didn't fit our system, round hole square block type of situation.
Moving up in the 4th could mean the difference between getting a J.Brinkley or F.Joesph and missing out on them.

I like the deal for the fact I already stated that it's another player our FO felt we need and it upgraded a postion for us.

No. The Raiders wanted to resign Grove but couldn't agree on a deal before the start of free agency.

As for who got the better of the deal...I think the Raiders did. My concern is the same one I had with Justin Smiley. I'm not sure he can play a full 16+ game season.

I agree moving up in the 4th round could pay off huge for us as for the rest we'll wait and see how each player develops.

The remains to be seen but I hope we have.

If we end up getting a player like Donald Thomas in the 4th we win.
If we take Shawn Murphy V2.0 we lose.

I could see the moveup in the 4th paying off huge. The main players that come to mind are the 2nd tier NT's that are availible. Kris Baker from Hampton and Sammie Lee-Hill from Stillman may be able to be aquired with this pick. This is a major possibility because we move ahead of all the "new 3-4" teams (Packers, Broncos, semi-Bills.) These teams are all searching for that prototypical 3-4 NT these players may fit the bill.

This pick is now almost like a late 3rd rounder. We can wait for that player to slide and potentially snatch them up here.

The teams have the same need but approached it different. I think after the draft we will get a better picture/idea of what our FO is working on. You have to believe they know more than this board. Donald Thomas, if healthy should be good, 6 round pick. And what can you say about Bess, got him as an Undrafted FA.... they know how to spot talent.
Last years draft seems to be great, this year it should be as good if not better.

This deal helped us replace a 7th pick that we gave up with a 6th and moved us up in the 4th. I was hoping the swap would have been 2nd or 3rd, but still worth it to me!

Agree!

While Shawn Murphy didn't pan out yet, there's still a chance he can come around. Some guys need a year or two to get it together. Under BP, this season should predict his future here.
