I am wondering if Fasano will be back even if he turns it on and does well here on out ? what is going to happen to David Martin ? is there any tightends in this next draft or in f/a that catches your eyes fellas ?:d-day::ponder:

Have we heard anything about TE John Nalbone? Was he signed to our practice squad? I don't believe I heard anything about him being claimed on the waiver wire after he was waived. Any news?

Dunno about Nalbone....imo it would be best to resign Fasano for whatever the going rate is for a #2 TE and go get Gresham from OU....kid can block and catch.

Ben Watson is a FA next year

....whoever is available on the first day of the 2010 draft

I think they'll keep Fasano around as a #2 TE.....even he has to understand what his value is.....

Miami needs an athletic, vertical threat at TE that can work the seams and stretch the middle of the field....a player at the position the can create a true mismatch for opposing defenses.....and that shouldn't be a problem IMO...

It's interesting how the invasion of spread offenses at the college ranks recently has directly coincided with the downward spiral in the number of TE's drafted over the past few years....

12 tight ends were drafted last year.......19 tight ends were drafted 2 years ago....

Tight ends these days are more less "rocked up" wide receivers.....with the emphasis on speed and pass catching.....the downside is that there are very few true "in-line" blocking TE's coming out in the draft anymore.....de-emphasizing strength and blocking technique...

I like Gresham....very experienced....and he'll bounce back from the injury....but it'll take some time for him to get back to 100%....because he's going to have to do it at the NFL level.....but he leaves much to be desired in terms of physicality and blocking IMO.....but that can be coached....and it'll have to be with ALL these tight ends.....

I really like USC's Anthony McCoy too.....and Oregon's Ed Dickson.....Florida's Aaron Hernandez.....probably the most versatile....

Andrew Quarles from Penn St......and a guy who I think is going to turn some heads at the combine.....Illinois tight end Jeff Cumberland....this guy is big and very fast....

They all leave something to be desired in terms of blocking....but they're all athletic, catch-and-run guys who can create potential mismatches and stretch the middle of the field....

Henne needs this sort of weapon IMO....

Cumberland isnt a TE, hes been moved to WR since last season.. Yeah, he started there.. but he has been a WR for the past two seasons so I dont know about trying to transition him back.. either way, we need to add a TE

Thus the term "rocked up" WR's.....

He'll enter the draft as a TE and attend the combine as one....

Brandon Pettigrew was probably the best blocking TE I've seen in the draft in years.....and he was athletic enough to split out and play WR in Oklahoma St's spread offense....

I think Cumberland's NFL future is at the TE/H-Back position...

Say what you want about Fasano he has been great in the blocking game this year. I think the loss of Martin has exposed him as being a second rating receiving TE but he still carries a lot of value on our offence. (IMHO) we should try to snag the TE out of BYU Dennis Pitta. If he's still on the board late 4th early 5th he would be a steal. I don't foresee Haynos or Nalbone ever being anything more then solid bench players at best. We also have that kid we got off of the Chargers PS but I have no clue what is deal is.

The kid from BYU has the potential to be a Witten/Gates/Clark type receiving TE (IMO) and that will only help Henne and make whatever receivers we have better.

Owen Daniels will probably be for graps after blowing out his knee. Daniels is argubly the best TE in the league and would all be a matter now of how well his knee heal's. The guy is also only 26 and by far the best TE to hit the market next year.
