Serious question, I hear that Grier is the guy making the selections on the draft picks. But if we trade up or down then it is Tannebaum? Makes no sense to me, can someone enlighten me?

My not so serious answer: If it's a good move or draft pick the fans will say it was Greer. If it's a bad move it was all Tannebaum.

Its suppose to be Grier I am hoping for Gase

Tannenbaum is running the team, period. Grier's title of GM is just a title, just like with Hickey after Mike T was named VP of football operations.

I have never been in the Miami war room on Draft Day but here is what I think occurs. I welcome any comments if you think I'm wrong.
My read is that Chris Grier is the man designated in charge, coordinating Miami's Draft. However, they work as a team. Grier has put together the Draft board based on all the assessments and information collected by his team of scouts and experts and he will make the recommendation for each selection based on what the board is showing. It will be discussed with emphasis placed on needs. The question will be asked to Coach Gase if he has any objection and then each card will be submitted.
Grier, Tannenbaum, Gase and the entire player evaluation team have already discussed the merits of the players to derive the values assessed on our board. Tannenbaum is the top negotiator. If evaluating whether to move up or down, he is probably active in the negotiation with the other team(s) and Grier defers to him. There is an art to successful negotiation and very few are really good at it. However, make no mistake, Mike Tannenbaum is a pro, but he needs Grier's team's accurate assessment of player values. If our Draft board is wildly wrong, then it will lead to bad deals and poor decisions (e.g. Jeff Ireland moving up to take Dion Jordan in 2013).
Comments by owner Stephen Ross and others strongly suggest that Tannenbaum, Grier and Gase work well as a team. Mr Ross has even said that this is the most coordinated that the leaders have worked together since he bought the team. The benefit of this will only be proven over a period of time but there is scope for optimism.

Look at Grier and Gase as the COO's, but Tannenbaum as the CEO. A franchise-changing decision, like trading up or major trade will be by Tannenbaum.
However, drafting a guard or a LB in a specific round is G&G

Heard its Griers show to run the draft and he sets the board. If they need to choose between one guy vs another Gase makes the choice, since he coaches them ultimately. Apparently TBs role is to over see it all and make sure everyone plays nice together.

Hopefully Grier has enough power to veto any stupid trades like Caroo.

Do other teams have situations like this? I'm seriously wondering if other teams have simple job descriptions for gm's that are all encompassing, or if coalitions of front office people is common.

Tbaum has final say in everything the front office does. Grier can't go to the toilet on draft night without permission.

all I am asking is at lease hit on 2 to 3 players in every draft. that can start or get playing time. thank we are not browns, how can you still miss best player in draft when you are picking number 1 thru 5 every yr.
