Who do you think is the better De and will put up the best numbers. Since it looks like both are starting and you have seen what they can do choose who you think is better

I like Langford better he was selected a round below Merling and from a smaller school Hampton and produced i think more than Merling. Merling shining moment was that pick that was huge though Farve pretty much handed it to him. Langford really looks good Very powerful and hopefully promise for both of them.

The fact that we're even comparing them is great - a "1st" rounder and a 3rd rounder. A testament to our scouting department...

I think right now they're pretty much equal.... Its going to be great watching them grow and take over that line... who knows who will "pull ahead..." Supposedly Merling was the early favorite, but they're not different enough right now. I wish I would've tivo'ed and saved indefinitely Langford's huff and puff post-interception

I think they have different strengths and weaknesses. That's why one plays on the left and one on the right.

Merling read the play and droped off for that pick and was handed nothing. Favre never thought a rookie would be capable of reacting that well and they very rarely do. Merling also ran a pretty good ways for the TD. Langford stated out playing more and was doing better early in the year but Merling finished. Way too early to debate this topic.

It seemed to me from the games I watched that Langford is the more natural DE in our system. He seems to make more plays

That was Merling's huff and puff interception..since Langford started from day one, I think he's slightly better, but Merling didn't allow Holiday to stay on the field speaks volumes for him as well, and the fact he was on the field for that huff and puff int say he's got something to prove.. with dotson looking good in practice and the players speaking highly of him plus R. Wright is still on the team is the reason I think the trifecta allowed Holiday to walk. That says a lot about all our young DE's.

I think Merling is better now. Langford was at first, but from what I have seen, Merling takes it.

He plays with more leverage and holds the linemen up then jumps on the ballcarrier very well. He also had the awesome pick for a TD in the Jets game which was all him reading the QB. I have high hopes for him.

True i was watching he did back up a bit like he knew the screen was coming but farve just threw it to him like Merling was the Jet

I agree with some that each their own strengths and weaknesses. I think Langford is better against the run and containing the pocket while i think Merling is better at pass rushing and coverage on screens. they are a perfect compliment now we just need someone on Lanford's side to help with pass rush

It's kind of hard to tell since Langford was starting, and Merling just rotated with Holliday.

I'd call it even right now, all because Merling got that pick 6, but if that didn't happen then I'd say Langford is better right now because he got a lot more playing time

I think both are good players and both will be starters this year. As for who is better, at this moment I have to give it to Langford. He seems to be a little more natural as a 3-4 end. Though Merling finished the season very strong. They will only get better.
