This roster is just based on re-signing players Jeff Ireland accumulated, including players Philbin either did not want or had to move on because of system fit.

IMO the biggest mistake Stephen Ross made was hiring Joe Philbin. The reason I say this is because , we built a power running offensive line, with a 3-4 D. With Philbin together with Mike Sherman and Kevin Coyle, we have had to put square pegs in round holes and again revamp the roster. We shifted to a ZBS which required lighter O'lineman. On D we had a 3-4 base with press corners. We shifted to a 4-3 off zone base.

There is a strong opinion that Jeff Ireland wanted Mike McCoy. He was smart enough to keep John Pagano as DC not to create a roster overhaul.

You have to ask, if we had kept Jeff Ireland and hired Mike McCoy together with a 3-4 DC, would we have had more wins. If that is the case who is to blame more, Stephen Ross, Joe Philbin or Jeff Irleand?

Ireland x2

Also, every if statement I've seen here is useless.

Also, what's a "strong" opinion as compared to an opinion? Can the strong opinion bench more than the opinion?

Everyone has their share of blame. If you force me to pick just one it would have to be Ross IMO. The reason is because of the way he has botched the GM and HC searches. Because of Ross our organization doesn't have any chemistry and is confusing to everybody.

Ireland was in charge of acquiring, yes or no? He had more misses than he had hits. Its that simple. And he was unfortunate that the few hits he had were not enough to overcome a fist-pumping for field goals Sporano and an offensive coordinator missing a pulse.

Why is it assumed that Philbin was the overwhelming factor in getting rid of Marshall and some of the rest. Ireland drafted a guy, excuse me, traded up to draft a guy Philbin didnt need and couldnt use. Why is it generally accepted on this forum that Ireland caved in to Philbin for these moves? That they were working cohesively at all in their 2 years together?

We have such contradictions here. The organization is a mess because they cant work together but all of the sudden Ireland is sensitive to Philbin and Philbin alone on wanting to get rid of talented players. Were they working together or not? Which one is it? I suppose its the one that supports ones strong opinion.

Ross

He hasn't given anyone under him the best chance to succeed.

Sure, Ireland had 5+ years, but he also had to work with Tony Sparano and Dan Henning, guys who essentially play for field goals and trust in college-antics like the "Wildcat".
I'm not an Ireland-supporter, but I Do understand that he didn't really have the best coaches working with his players.

Again, to Ireland's detriment, Philbin is another example of a possibly incapable coach, but him being paired with Ireland and a roster that doesn't serve him well, nor Wants to serve him well -- I dunno how anyone could expect Philbin's staff to get positive results from the get-go from inheriting a different style-of-play team, and having various team holes neglected in the offseason. Combine that with Ireland bringing in toxic players like Incognito, Martin, Marshall, and Ocho-Cinco, and you have quite a mess to work with, really.

Ireland - His preparedness to overlook the off the field issues with Incognito was significant. Philbin clearly wanted an experienced LT veteran like Albert, in preference to J-Mart, but Ireland backed off from doing the deal.
Ireland always said that he wanted good character players, but the details emerging from inside the Dolphin locker room does not support that.

IMO there is blame to be shared, but as a person who is not an Ireland fan, when you look at that roster with Mike McCoy and a 3-4 D with press corners, it is Better than what we currently have.

The one no longer with the organization

I blame Ross. When he fired Sparano, he should have cleaned house completely. Hire a (hopefully) competent GM, and let him get his own Head Coach. Keeping Ireland and hiring Philbin was a HUGE mistake. Ireland has no ability to draft offensive playmakers, and placed more emphasis on a draft pick's "perceived value" and the player's potential when he should've been concerned with a pick's actual on-field talent. Philbin is just an organizational guy who should be setting up practice and holding a clipboard. He's never been in charge anywhere, and now we know why. His one strong point? Getting Ross to believe that he knows what he's doing.

The owner is never wrong. People just dont understand where the paychecks come from.

wait....Dawn understands this well.

I have my concerns with Philbin as the HC, but certainly not over this. Its been reported that he had serious reservations over JM ability to start at LT and he was in favor of trading for Albert. Its also been reported that he wanted to get rid of Incognito last yr. Ireland had final say. Therefore, the fault lies with Ireland.
Philbin doesn't have the power of a Bill Bellichick.

Ross. He should have cleaned house when Sparano was fired. He should have done a complete overhaul then. Now we get these half-ass measures every two years...we will probably get Philbin fired next year, and then we will have 3 years with Hickey and a new head coach to do something before we have complete overhaul.
