Im curious to learn more about Todd Bowles, what are his philosophies as a coach, does he like to blitz, zone blitz, play coverage rush 4? is he a 3-4 believer?

Any way there are a few here that are very intune with these matters please post and help educate a fellow phins fan.

I've also been looking for some info on him.. I've been trying to figure out who hes worked under while he was in Cleveland. I do know he is a definite 3-4 guy.

"Defensively, I've come from a 3-4 scheme -- I've been in a 4-3 scheme -- you want to have the personnel to fit what you do,'' Bowles said. "If you don't, you can have a hybrid version of a 4-3 until you can get a 3-4 scheme in place. I've coached in the 4-3, too, so if Ernie (Sims) or (Cliff) Avril don't fit a 3-4, we'll play a 4-3.

"I'll be working toward (a 3-4) as long as I have the personnel.''

That was in a article last year when he was being interviewed for the lions HC job. For those of you that like the Hybrid 3-4 and 4-3 scheme, this is your man.

I don't think anyone really knows the answer to this except for folks inside the Dolphins organization.

I'm not going to be surprised if he's at least more aggressive than Pasq. Anyone with half a brain knows our defense wasn't aggressive enough, and I won't believe for a second the brass is looking for someone to coach a conservative defense like Pasq had here.

So by extension, you can pretty much guarantee ANYONE who gets hired will at least differ in philosophy from the guy that was just fired. Whether he can execute the vision he is hired on is another question...

Simply inferring his philosophies based on defenses for which he coached the secondary is a good guess, but it's still a guess. It doesn't really tell you where he would take THIS defense.

Hmmm... it does seem like he could be the man for the job this season. If he can run a hybrid defense with the front seven, that is exactly what Miami needs. There is a weakness at LB right now. We need to use JT more as a pass rusher in a 4/3, and then bring in Cam Wake or someone else (draft or FA) to play some OLB in the 3/4. Bottom line... right now, Miami needs a flexible DC who can run a hybrid for at least one season.

On what he is looking for in a defensive coordinator:

“I’m a bottom line kind of guy, so what you want is that there’s a lot of ways to get there. Just like on offense. I like what we do on offense, that doesn’t mean that’s the only system you can be successful with and I feel the same way about defense. I want somebody who can have a system that understands it and can be efficient. I don’t care if it’s a 3-4 or an eight-man front or a 4-3. If you can come in and show me that you can fix it and that you can teach it. It doesn’t matter what you know, it’s whether or not you can come in and teach it and get it across to the guys playing. If you have a track record, that’s good. There’s also that point of just giving a guy a chance. A long time ago, I didn’t have a track record, but I could sell what I had to them. You want the whole package.[/FONT]

In fact jason taylor best years were on a 4/3 defense . right now with our personel we are a hybrid defense so i do like bowles .

Well one thing he has that no one else mentioned does is the fact that he worked with this defensive group. He should understand the shortcomings and the strong points of our defense correct? Whatever direction he would want to take the defense he surely understands that whatever choices were made were not the correct ones. See: Paul Pasqualoni
So if he does end up being our guy, i think i would be ok with that. He has the last two years tape to watch and knows what decisions were made and when and what impact to the game those choices made so he has the most experience with this group than any other candidate

What impresses me the most here with the interview is it sounds like he plays to the strength of his personel, like when he mentioned ernie sims and cliff avril. That to me is important it seems like our defense sometimes were doing sh*t just to do it and not because it made sense, so hell maybe its a step in the right direction already.
Or I could have just misunderstood the whole thing and now look like a fool
