Now this is not a question of who you like more. I want Stats or legit reasons why you think one played better than the other.

Also the question states who played better not who you think is going be better.

Discuss.

no doubt vontae. smith is soft, doesn't have great speed and can't tackle. vontae on the other hand is a playmaker. yes he has given up some td's but they been on the nfl's top recievers. vontae is much more of a playmaker and when he gives up td's he is usually pretty close to the reciever while sean smith gets beat pretty badly at times.

Depends on what you look at.

Smith was the better cover corner. Vontae was the better playmaker

I'd say davis at this point, however its hard to judge a player when most of the huge plays given up by both players were the result of the horrible safety play we had all season long.

It's ironic that before Will Allen went down he was having a fantastic season with the same safety's

on 329 defensive snaps Will was thrown at 29 times with only 11 receptions...with one of the lowest completion percentages of any corner in football at 37.9 %

Will only allowed 152 total yards

I think that we place to much blame on our safety's
even though they deserve blame. Our corners need to improve there man to man coverage and need to cut down on the big plays...both are in the 20 yard per reception area
which is just not acceptable when compared to the rest of the NFL starting corners

Vonte allowed 6 TDs this season which is tied for 2nd out of all corners while Smith allowed 4 TDs this season

A few items that have to catch your eye are the interceptions by Davis plus his killer instinct as for Sean,he showed very good coverage skills.I believe the future will be bright in our secondary with these two leading the way

Vontae always had the capability to turn a play thrown his way into a positive play for the defense. Sean Smith may or may not have covered well most of the time, but at this point in his career he simply isn't assertive and comfortable enough to play the ball in the air, with the result being that the opposing team's offense could practically throw the ball through him. They both gave up their share of plays, but only Vontae made positive game-changing plays. The answer is obvious.

Vontae was the best all around player, but both will do much better with improved pass pressure and linebacker and safety play.

Vontae basically helped win us the Pats game, so I'll go with him. Two Brady to Moss INTs is tremendous for a rookie.

Sean is alot better in coverage, but Vontae is a better over all football players.

Sean had 3 games this year he only gave up one catch, but he also played soft all year.

They are who we thought they'd be coming out, they played the same way in college.

The stats clearly show that smith was the better cover corner. In fact, teams stopped throwing his way. Give Smith a year or so to put on several pounds and he will be really good.

But the important thing is that both are good.

Both had tough seasons but both improved greatly. I think Vontae would get my vote because he repeatedly was the choice to defend the better WR, even with height problems. I think Sean Smith has the a higher ceiling though, and look for him to be the better player as early as next year.

I think Vonte played better, and will be a better pro. Smith still looks like he's thinking a little too much out there. It also doesn't help that we had horrific play from Gerbil.

This is a good question. I vote for Vontae. Sean played pretty good, but didn't do anything stellar. But he played decent when you consider he was a rookie. But Vontae showed us that he is a superstar in the makings. He will make the pro bowl at some point. He made some HUGE plays this season. But he also goofed bad a few times and it hurt the defense. When Vontae cleans up his game, he will be a pro bowl cornerback. Great draft pick for Miami. Sean Smith will be good too, but I'm not sure if he will start over Will Allen next season. We'll see.
