This is a question that has come to me recently for whatever reason. I was thinking of Miami's Wr's and remember Marino had a great tandem during the early years of his career in Mark Duper and Clayton. I never was really young during that time, I became a fan of Miami and watched them after Clayton and Duper were done. I first watched when Irving Fryar the go to WR for Miami and Bernie Parmalee was the rb and so on. The Marks brothers were great WR's but was the so called no.1 of the two, and/or who do say was slightly/or greatly better between the two, and why.

As I remember it Duper had the speed, but I'd take Clayton he could catch anything the man had some hands.

Duper was faster and Clayton was quicker. Does that make any sense? lol.. But Clayton seemed to be more versatile and go over the middle as well as deep. Duper pretty much just ran down the field faster than the player covering him and Marino nailed him in stride...

IMO Clayton was the better receiver. Physically, they were of similar stature. Duper was faster and Clayton was the better leaper. I give the edge to Clayton though b/c of attitude. MC was one of those guys that assumed any ball in the air was his.

Its really hard to comprae when you don't have the same QB throwing to them but I think we probably have better receivers now than we did then.

I'd say to close to call. I think Marino could've had Bevis and Butthead to throw to and they would have been probowlers!!

I think in a nutshell he was asking who was the better receiver out of the Marks Brothers...

I don't know. Definitely bigger (the Marks brothers were pretty small). But they were as good as we've ever had. Marino says Clayton should be in the Hall. I doubt he'll ever get there. But he's got better numbers than a lot of guys already in.

Clayton was a Steve Smith type receiver. Small and explosive. This one's over the great Darrell Green.

Bingo. This is right on the mark (so to speak). I think Marino made these two receivers more than the other way around. Clayton was better, especially latter in their careers. They were both good receivers but they were not great. I do not believe that Clayton belongs in the Hall of Fame.

No.

I'll never forget watching clayton get tackled and as he's laying on his back with the corner on him he reaches out with his left hand and catches the ball ( against buffalo I think )

maybe your referring to the play clayton made against the bears in solider field 1991, made a catch sliding on his back to set up the gw fg in the snow

I have watched every Marino-Duper-Clayton game, and you cant say one was "better" than the other. Both were great receivers. But Duper was my favorite to watch. The guy could flat out fly.

Their numbers for their career are similar. Only difference was that Clayton had about 20-25 more TD's. I think he was more athletic, he jumped over a ping pong table once. He also was better at going up and fighting for a jump ball. Duper also had a drug problem in 88-89 (only 2 td catches those 2 years) which slowed him down a lot and screwed up his game (suspended for the last 4 games of 1988). Otherwise, he would be in the Hall of Fame.
