When we lose Taylor and Thomas who will be in our D, they are the only people that make us any good, without them on our D we will be nothing

there gonna address that in the draft hopefully we get some talent for the next generation.

Lets just hope that there are some good ends and backers in the draft in a few years, but you never know JT and Thomas might stay for about 5 more years, that is more hope that anythink :)

Why? The thread had one person responding to it. It's a discussion thread, and you rated it based on the premise. That's not what the rating system was designed for. Maybe YOU could add to the discussion and bring up the quality of the thread

I think it will be Roth and Crowder. I believe they will make an excellent leadership tandem very soon. Roth is emerging on the field, and may even exceed Crowder in terms of on field impact. Both guys have that no prisoners temperament that you want leading a defense.

5 stars so I can bring it back up to three at least.

Anyway who knows at this point, hopefully like someone said there are some good ends in the draft or free agent market even. As for linebackers Crowder will probably take Zachs ILB spot with someone we draft taking Crowders ILB spot in the 3-4.

If only one leaves one year and then the other leave the next it will not impact your defense as much as it would if both them leave the same time.

But for example if they both hang it up next year. Will it hurt the Defense Yes it will. Maybe not so much with Thomas leaving. He is a MLB and they can be found. But with Taylor leaving would hurt more. He is something special and really the only player "feared" on the Def right now. Maybe you could add Porter to the "feared" list but needs to proove he is back to normal.

I think Roth is definately the type of infectious leader that will lead this team in the future. I also think if they get a deal done with Bell he might command more respect than any other player on the roster just by how he worked his way up from being a late round pick, to injured non contributor, to special teams ace, to special teams ace/ part time playmaker in the nickel and dime, to a starting ballhawking/blitzing safety who teams really do have to be aware of. I'm not completely sold on Channing being the leader of the defense just because of the true lack of onfield impact plays. If you look at it Roth has definately made more impact plays in part time roll where Channing has made very few in the starters roll (except for that hit against the falcons full back his rookie year; that was an awsome hit). Who knows we may even have a future leader that we picked in the late rounds (Smith or Wright), but we have to wait until the pads go on for that.

I hate to even think about how we have wasted the talent of two of the best ever by drafting poorly. Both are still playing at a high level and maybe thier replacements are on the team now. I don't see Roth as having the ability to be JT like but he can be good as can Rodrique Wright.

Thomas is replaceable .... just hire him as a LBs coach ... to teach film study and angles.

Taylor is a bit different ... his talent, you don't just 'replace' ... you just adapt to different personnel; albeit, you do want a pass rushing DE / OLB on your roster at all times.

Bills Fan,
I agree with your post except for that line about Thomas. Most middle backers are really just guys who read and react where Thomas is actually a QB on the defense. The reason our defense is usually towards the top of the league is based on Thomas making the right calls to get his teamates into position. Sometimes believe it or not I think losing Thomas for a long stretch would hurt more than losing JT. I don't know if anyone else ever caught the CBS Peyton Manning interview about 2yrs ago where the Greg Gumbell asked if Ray Lewis was the defensive player he feared the most and Peyton laughed and said "not even close!" Greg looked suprised and he said if not Ray, then who? Peyton then said Zach Thomas. Gumbell once again kind of laughed and asked what was so scary about ZT to which Peyton said he is the only defenseive player in the league that can mentally match him on the field. Whenever Peyton would audible he said Zach would call out the exact play that Manning audibled too. He said there was no one else in the league that was as mentally prepared as ZT and backed it up on the field. I really wish I had a link for you, but it was a CBS pre game interview so I have no idea where I would find it at. I love the fact that Peyton pretty much said don't buy the hype with Lewis, but rather buy the onfield presence of ZT.

While I agree about MLB (I played one from 8-22) and they have instincts that cannot be taught. The thing is at the college level you will find those players. Look at the good MLBs that are being produced out of College now.

I am not bashing ZT here. But with Crowder already playing with him for a couple years you may have your replacement already on the roster. Will there be a little drop-off in play from the MLB spot if ZT leaves. The answer is yes. But It will not hurt that DEF as much as some think.

Now if you lose a talent like JT that has the ability to play LB and DE, and play both positions at All Pro level, that is something that will be hard to replace.

As I said losing both in the same year will hurt more than losing one at a time. And losing JT will hurt much more than losing ZT. The only thing is based off their relationship together from reading on this site. I have a feeling as soon as one is done the other will be done the same year.

Where they goin pal? There not gonna pull a Ricky and jus quit. So we are gonna get player via draft.

Once again I can see your point of view, but I guess what I'm trying to get at is JT causes problems for offense everywhere he lines up, but if ZT isn't making the calls for JT to switch around and changing the coverages would JT be at the right spot at the right time. I guess what I would compare it to would be Marvin Harrison is the most consistent and dominate(by my POV) Wr in the game and he is always in the right spot at the right time for a reception after an audible by Manning. You take Manning out of the picture and you insert Jim Sorgi and have him calling out the audibles is Harrison going to have the same type of success. You have very few QB's that know how to run an offense like Peyton andset his teamates up for success. I think the same can be said for Thomas. JT has out of the world physical talent and a deep desire to win, but make no mistake ZT runs that defense and is the one who makes this team better by making sure all the pieces are in place. Also I know you're not bashing ZT and I think a majority of Miami's fans will agree with your point of view on this matter, but I on the other hand will ZT's intangibles over the Tangible's JT brings (Although I prefer to keep both:evil:). In regards to Crowder taking over that spot, I'd like to see him make a few more plays on the outside when he has an opportunity before I annoint him as anything other than a nice prospect on our D. Your post's have been well thought out and appreciated at least by me on the subject, Nice job!!!

Zach doesn't make the call for Taylor to move around. Saban and Capers gave Jason the freedom last year to move around depending on what he sees from the opposing offense. It was up to Zach, Channing and Donnie to make changes for the LBs and Kevin, who I think made the line call changes, based on what Jason did.
