I was talking about this a little bit in another thread. Does anyone know what is or might be happening after DirecTv's contract expires? I'm really hoping for some kind of deal like MLB or the CFB 360 has where games will be streamed.

I would expect DirectTV so sign a new contract that would extend it beyond 2010. No need to mess with something that works.

Hopefully FiOS or something is able to strike a deal with the NFL. Right now it looks the like the league will never have any kind of deal with Comcast, but now that FiOS is getting pretty big maybe they can get a deal done and then i myself can have a chance to get Sunday ticket.

i agree with Nublar i expect them to sign a new contract, they get alot of business with that...i know tons of people with DirecTV with the NFL package and plus all the bars got it, im sure theyre on top of it already

Being from Pennsylvania, for years I had to settle for a few Dolphin games on TV a year and mostly watching the stat tracker on NFL.com for the rest of the games. We always wanted Sunday Ticket, but we were always not real sure if we wanted to add Direct TV. In 2004 we decided to give Direct TV and Sunday NFL Ticket a try. 5 years later, we don't know how we survived for so long with out it. Even without Sunday Ticket, Direct TV rocks. Sunday Ticket is just the icing on the cake. Not having to miss a Dolphins game(though Hurricanes can change that) is absolutely amazing for this out of state Dolphins fan.

Direct TV has something very special going on, and I can bet that they know that. They will out bid everybody again when it comes time to extend the contract.

NFL Sunday Ticket is the whole reason I got DirectTV. Well worth the money!

Actually Dish network has better hd programming, better music channels, considerably better customer service. Unfortunately we are stuck with direct tv. It is nice to have all those games though:woot:

hears the real issue:
The NFL would make a lot more money is the Sunday ticket was available to every one. Direct TV may be able to hold on to the package for another couple of years, but with the advent of streaming, consumers will be looking for alternatives.

IT would serve everyone's interest to open up the Sunday ticket.

Not true. The NFL collects much more for Sunday Ticket as an exclusive than other sports that are made available to all providers because DirecTV uses it as a loss leader for the rest of its packages. If the NFL were to leave DirecTV, it would be because the cable companies banded together and put up an even more staggering offer than DirecTV.

i bet they'd make more money if they did a pay per view type thing. Something like $9.99 to view every game played on sunday. Thats $160 a season which is about the same for the sunday ticket isnt it?

I work in the Satellite industry Direct Tv has the main share in the market place Dish is very far behind. Also Dish will not bid the kind of money that Direct Tv will.My contacts at Direct tell me they will bid an outrageous amount to keep the Nfl package exclusive to Direct Tv.

Just curious.. How do you know the contract expires after 2010?
I would like to see some competition for the NFL package and/or more than 1 carrier. That would hopefully lower the prices.
But I do love D TV
