The loss of Patrick Cobbs creates two major holes the Dolphins have to fill this Sunday: Kickoff returner, and up-back in the Wildcat formation.
I've worked for two weeks to figure these two positions out, and to be absolutely honest, I can only guess until we see the replacements on Sunday against the Saints.

The best guess to replace Cobbs as the team's kickoff returner is Ted Ginn Jr. for two reasons. He's done the job before. Not good. But he's done it. Most recently, in the season opener. And second, Ginn REALLY wants his returner role back.

But it's also possible we could see Davone Bess, Brian Hartline, Lex Hilliard or newly acquired tailback Kory Sheets back there. All of the above were tried out in that role during the bye week, when the Dolphins were working overtime to improve their special teams unit.
As for the up-back, that's anyone's guess

I'd like to see what Sheets can do...

he can get a shot at backup RB because we have had all 4 RBs on game day when we had Cobbs but i think Sheets is going to be the better RB they Hilliard

I agree, Hilliard is more of a one dimensionnal power back IMO.

One of the great things about Cobbs in the wildcat was that he was a good blocker which was what he did most of the time in that formation.

I re-watched the Jets/Miami game again last night and realized how difficult it will be to replace Pat Cobbs on our Jumbo Wildcat package.
The man blocks with the best of them and is also a threat for a big play. Lex/Sheets have BIG shoes to fill.

I think we have to start with Hilliard because he's probably a better blocker than Sheets IMO and Cobbs biggest role in the wildcat was blocking...

Im scared to ****... I think this is the wrong week to try different elements of the wildcat that incorporated Cobbs, although it isnt a division or even a conference game so it might be the best week.. In terms of traditional running sets, start Hilliard.. He is powerful and fast

no one can fill his shoes. he is a god among men. cobbs, buddy, you will be missed.

Ginn on KO easily, sorry for all the Cobbs lovers, but Cobbs is terrible at KO return. Don't know who he will be replaced with in the wildcat, but hopefully sheets can block. Either way I think we will be fine without Cobbs. He was a backup for a reason.
