Many of you know that Peterson will be a UFA next offseason. Many of you don't know that Peterson played for Nick Saban at Michigan State.
In Nick's most recent Dolphins Insider column, he was discussing the point production system they use on defense to evaluate players. He said that against the Broncos Zach had 27 production points and JT had 24. Both Zach Thomas and Junior Seau had 20+ production points against the Jets. He says if a guy has over 20 production points, it's a pretty darn good day for him. If he has 30 or more, that's an absolutely phenomenal day. Then he says...
He goes onto explain the system. You get 2 points for a solo tackle, 1 point for an assist. Negative 2 points for a missed tackle. Get 3 points for a forced fumble, 3 points for a recovered fumble, 3 points for an interception, 1 point for a batted down ball, and negative two points for a penalty (JT would have had 28 points against the Broncos then w/o the two offsides).
His philosophy is interesting, btw. He doesn't have a production point system for offense because he says that offense is about the execution of all 11 guys on the field, so you can't quantify it too much. He then spends the rest of the article GUSHING about Junior Seau.
BUT, back to the point. Julian Peterson played Left Outside Linebacker in the 49ers 4-3 scheme last year (as opposed to LILB and RILB...so basically it was the same position as Spragan and Seau have played for us). He made the switch this season to LOLB in the 3-4, which Spragan and Seau have also been playing.
Seau, especially with the calf injury if it turns out to be serious (and I have a bad feeling...these kinds of lingering injuries with a really old vet can be bad news) could be looking to retire after this year especially if the Phins have some kind of cinderella type year. Junior says he never wants to go out on a bad note. If Miami guts out an impressive season this year Junior may decide to hang it up if injury issues are really bringing him down.
And Peterson was franchise tagged this offseason. I think he might have been franchised last offseason too not sure. They have to keep giving him a 20% raise I believe every successive time they franchise him. God knows that could be a bloated figure so perhaps the 49ers just don't bother franchising him.
IF that is the case, and IF San Fran and Peterson come to some kind of impasse (big IFs) then I am about 90% certain Peterson will be a Dolphin.
And THAT, folks, would be some kind of special front seven. Zach, JT, Peterson, Crowder at LB spots, Carter, Traylor, and Roth or Holliday on DL...maybe Manuel Wright or Kevin Vickerson really surprise us by then who knows.

It's hard to remember every game I've coached, but I think Julian Peterson, when I coached him at Michigan State, one time had 33 points. That could be the record
