3. Brett Favre or Dan Marino? It's not a fair question unless it's phrased this way: Favre and Reggie White or Marino and Reggie White? I'll take Marino and White.

Without arguably the greatest defensive player of all time, Favre does not own a Super Bowl ring and two Super Bowl appearances. Give Marino a defender as dominant as White, and he wins at least one Super Bowl. I bring this up because it's my opinion that Marino, especially late in his career, routinely carried mediocre teams -- like the one Favre is leading now -- to the playoffs. I don't question Favre's greatness. I'm just saying there's no reason the Packers shouldn't win the NFC North and reach the playoffs. Marino would do it.

--------
I keep hearing this over and over, like the thing with if Marino had the 49ers team Montana had he would have won more Super Bowls. Another sports guy thinks the same thing. Those Marino bashers need to realize it's a team sport. I love what this guy says.

I read that too. And he's right.

Marino's leash was really tight in the final (JJ) years. He wasn't allowed to audible, etc. And yet he was still able to drag us into the playoffs

Finally some sports writer says what we have been saying all along. Everyone forgets how good the Packers D was the year they won the Superbowl.

Gilbert Brown - Arguably the best run stopper in 97
LeRoy Butler - Perennial pro bowl SS
Seth Joyner - Good linebacker from the 90s
Reggie White - Best defensive player to ever play by some accounts
Eugene Robinson - Another good FS, he actually had the most interceptions of any active player going into that game.

They had some really good players on that defense. I was actually suprised to watch the game on ESPN classic and when they announced the rosters.

Well that's a different perspective in terms of winning the SB.

At least Mr. Whitlock knows that when comparing the quality of two individual players, compare the two individuals' achievements and not the two individuals teams' achievements.

I would have to agree with that 100%.

While I agree with what Whitlock wrote I also question how unbiased a Cowboys homer can be when talking about a PAcker during the 90's. Favre imo is the 2nd best qb to ever play behind dan the man

Joe Montana was on Dan LeBatard's show yesterday in Miami, and said that if Marino and him switched teams, Marino would've won the titles and I believe Montana said he wouldnt've won... Very interesting!

As a fins fan living in England, I have never understood some of the negativity surrounding Dan Marino. Why in American sports are you only judged on what you win and not how good a player you actually were??? When I hear the greatest QB debate crop up, people always say Marino never got that ring! So what?????

Over here in England, players of Soccer are judged by their ability and not their trophies.

For me, Marino was the greatest QB of all time. He was the single factor in my love for Football and the Dolphins. As a kid growing up in the 80's, it was he who turned my head towards this great game. Any player that can attract support to a game based on his ability, in my eyes, is great!!!

Seeing Marino play at Wembley in London many years ago was one of the greatest thrills of my life and one I wont ever forget.

Marino is the greatest QB of all time to me, the rest just pale into insignificance!!!!

THIS JUST IN: The rest of the season's NFL games have been cancelled due to various conflicts with pee-wee football, women's badminton games, International Curling Championship, the Tour-de Portugal and Ted Rosenblum, of Toldeo,'s habit of playing tic tac throw on Sundays.

 Damn. Figures.

Yup. He's been saying that for years. Many QBs won't say things like that because their ego's are sensative.

I've always liked Montana, regardless of that comment. It's tough not to.
