Hello all: I wanted to ask who is better, Samson Satele or newly acquired center Jake Grove? And if you think either is better than the other, then why?

I Satele could be a cut casualty come training camp if he doesn't show up. I highly doubt they would favor Satele at RG over Donald Thomas.

Grove.
Because our front office says so, and they know more about football then all of us.

Grove from the stand point he's stronger and wont get manhandled when we face the tougher dt's in the league. Also Grove plays with a nasty side.

I'm going with Samson. Grove hasn't proven anything yet, and until I see him making the significant impact we're expecting, I wont be convinced he's the answer at C. Personally, the addition of Grove was a major head-scratcher for me, especially considering what we paid him. It seemed more like a desperation move, than a confident one in my opinion...

That's a valid point right there. I'm not 100% convinced Grove is our guy as a starter at C. I would like to see whoever it is at C plug up the middle and create more space for Ricky and Ronnie. I think we have a lot of potential at the line. I would have honestly liked for us to take Alex Mack in the draft. I'd rather have someone younger we can develop that has the size and ability to go up against the likes of Marcus Stroud, Kris Jenkins and Vince Wilfork twice a year.

Grove was brought in to start. Technically the position is his to lose.
But, therein lie the onion: he must compete with a motivated & probably beefed-up Satele to secure the position.
Let them compete.

I think they're about even talent-wise. However, Grove fits the profile of what we're looking for in our offensive linemen (big, strong and nasty), whereas Satele is a smaller, more agile lineman. If he were to go to a team that uses a zone blocking scheme, such as Denver, Satele can be a very good starting center once he matures a little more. I'm not saying Grove is the answer to our center problem, but he at least looks the part.

the raiders are a zone blocking team. i think jake will blosom here in miami. hell maybe we will trade satele to oakland for a 4th.

I could have quouted any of the previous posters. Grove when healthy is supposed to be an upgrade to Satele.

Again, I think the injury last year hampered Satele. This year hopefully Satele will be healthy and finally remind everyone here who conveniantly forgot how his rookie season he was balling hard and strong.

Grove if anything might be a blessing in disguise, with the competition we are about to see this comming TC for the C position, Satele will be pushed and will play better then ever imo.

Either way if Grove is starting come Game 1 it doesnt mean he will be starting come game 16. With his past injury problems, its most likely we will see Satele back at center one way or another.

I have a gut feeling that we are gunna see that satele is better, but for no reason in particular.

Imo Samson will be the better Center because if he bulks up he will be better against elite NTs and before his labrum injury he played pretty good and Wilfork was frustrated after the Week 3 game because he didn't excel in the way he was used to.. I suspect that had something to do with Samson's play..
Grove has to prove that he can stay healthy because he missed so much time in the last 2 years and I think the both will battle for the starting job in training camp..

I have reviewed tape of both Satele and Grove. Grove is clearly an upgrade. The film makes that abundantly clear.

If you look at tape of Satele during the last two years, he is not able to drive any defensive linemen off of the ball. That is a combination of technique and strength. Grove consistently drives defensive linemen off the ball. Based upon the tape, Satele needs significant improvement to compete with Grove. I just do not see that many improvements being achieved in a single training camp.

better is a bit vague. a better center in our scheme: Grove. a better guard: Satele.
