Now that the draft has taken place and everyone now knows the options the Dolphins are have on the o-line. Whose going to play the LG position?

Smiley is strictly a right guard, Ireland has already said that Shawn Murphy is going to the right side and Donald Thomas is still a project.

Smiley is not strictly a RG he can play the left side and actually some thought he might be able to play LT.

according to omar kelly's column, it looks like it's going to be justin smiley... that way a rook gets paired up with a vet on each side of the line

One interesting slip Ireland let through was that Justin Smiley will likely be the starting LEFT guard next season, possibly easing Long's transition to the NFL.

It's smart to put the veterans next to the rookie starters. Smiley will hold Long's hand next season, and right tackle Vernon Carey will likely hold Murphy, Thomas or Drew Mormino's hand as they battle it out for the starting right guard spot.

I saw the Ireland PC, and I agree with Omar. Ireland seems to think Murphy is the favorite at RG and that would mean Smiley would be switched to LG.

LT - Long
LG - Smiley
C - Satele
RG - Murphy
RT - Carey

Looks like this could be a top 5 oline in a year or two after they all learn to play together.

If you saw the press conference you also saw that Ireland said that's how it is on paper, right now, and that it is ultimately up to the head coach where everyone plays. I do think it might be wise to have an experienced vetern next to the rookies to help limit some of those mistakes that they sure to make. With that said, it didn't hurt Webb and Sims to start out playing together as rookies.

Jeff Ireland seems to have a habit of misspeaking during his press conferences lately.

I like thay oline though, I think we will have some young depth but it should be our best oline since the 80's and potentially the 70's. We will definately have a great run blocking oline.

You guys realize Bill Parcells can't draft OL to save his life right?

Don't put too much into anyone he's drafted because 90% of the players he drafted in Dallas SUCK. No one bothers to actually look up info like that because they're afraid of what they might see. Lets just pretend like because he won a superbowl during the first gulf war, before the internet, that were destined to be great.

He only had success with 3 or 4 picks in 4 years. He had NOTHING to do with Romo.

3 of the 4 players he drafted in the first round in Dallas have dissappointed, just like all 6 first rounders he took with the Jets.

Why do you guys drool over a guy who can't draft?

He's a great coach, and he's not a coach anymore so where is all this excitement coming from? Tony Sparano's crooked moustache?

Run blocking wise, it could be as great as the 2002 OL when Ricky ran for 1,853 and for over 2,500 yards as a team. Being able to run the ball that effectively, or close to it, should make it easier for whomever wins the QB job.

I think the 2002 team had some stellar performance but with the exception of Nails Ricky made them look better than they were.

This draft is not just about Parcells. It's about Parcells, Jeff Ireland and Tony Sparano.

How can 3 of the 4 players he drafted in the first round disappoint when Parcells only had 3 first round picks during his time there. Also, how can 3 of the 4 disappoint when 2 of them made the pro bowl last year.

During the five years when either Parcells or Ireland was involved in the Dallas Cowboys draft, from 2003 to 2007, 25 of the 39 draft picks where on their playoff roster this year with 10 of them starting. If only the Dolphins have drafted that well over the past 5 years.

i agree they will work smiley at left guard some to give murphy reps at right guard (if he merits reps with the first unit), but i wouldn't discount drew mormino as our starter at left guard come opening day. i see our approximate training camp depth as follows:

1st team:

LT Jake Long
LG Drew Mormino
C Samson Satele
RG Justin Smiley
RT Vernon Carey

2nd team:

LT Vernon Carey
LG Ikechuku Ndukwe
C Drew Mormino (he is listed at center on the official roster)
RG Shawn Murphy
RT Julius Wilson

3rd Teamers

T Trey Darilek
G Donald Thomas
