I just do not understand his philosophy in re-signing Dom Capers as DC before the head coach is hired.

Whatever happened to allowing a head coach to bring in people he is comfortable working with?

All I know is if Miami loses again...I see a lot of finger pointing. Too much risk in meshing personalities....too many chiefs at the top. Nobody listening to anyone else. No clear cut "buck stops here" guy.

I couldn't imagine the next coach having any influence on how Dom runs this defense. Zero.

This process is different, but can it be effective?

Seeing how effective Capers was defensively anywhere he has been made WH sign him to that giant contract before we got the HC. Whoever comes in would be kind of silly to want to scrap him for someone else. Really, who better is out there?

If your a head coach why wouldnt you be happy with Dom Capers? He is a top defensive mind in the game.

You dont need a head coach telling you what kind of defense to run, you need one who can find the other teams weakness and exploit it along with his assistants, and who can fire up his guys.

Capers running the D should be a huge plus for any coach.

I have no problem with what we did with Capers, Tampa did the same thing with Monte Kiffin.

What head coach would not want a defensive genius and a top 5 defense on his team?

Who is better? Well we don't know that. But certainly the Head Coach should have "some" input on whether he and Dom can communicate effectively?

I mean Dom is going to report directly to him right?

This approach is way out of left field. You just don't do what Wayne did, and it appears to be backfiring on us now. I'm praying that Marty Schott get fired right now. He'd be the best, most proven head coach available, and he could help us more than Mora / Gailey....

PHINZ RULE!!!!

I think the point is they need to work together on a daily basis. Things such as traveling together, sharing certain players (special teams kinda stuff), etc. Better to get a group that is good with one another.

Dom is just fine, but the process WH has going is one least likely to work.

What bothers me about the process is Wayne flying all over the country interviewing people.....he should be telling the candidates to fly into Miami and then they can talk. I know it is Wayne's team, but I can't say any of the candidates really amount to much.....I guess Wayne can afford to pay to fly his fleet of planes everywhere, but it doesn't look like we are getting anywhere. :rolleyes2

If I were a prospective head coach, I wouldn't like this at all. It looks too much like Capers and his minions run the defense. Don't touch 'em. Just come in and straighten out the offense and kinda orchestrait things. I just wouldn't like it.
On top of that, Capers could very likely fly the coup for another head coaching gig after next season, leaving this 'hire the high dollar coordinator before the head coach' idea, lookin' like a foolish one.

Yes, but all proffesionals should be able to communicate effectively. They get paid millions to do that.

Waynes appoarch just reeks of an executive search with no "standing" short list.

Exactly. Capers is a good coordinator, sure...but whose to say that when the defense fails to hold during the 4th qtr, that he will be open for suggestions from the Head Coach?

That is not a good situation for any HC coming into Miami....I'd steer clear.
