Why #19 - Keyshawn Johnson?

Can someone shed some light on this one for me. WR's in the NFL are required to wear a number in the 80's, unless one isn't available. Meshawn has always worn #19. Why is this?

I just finished looking at the Cowboys roster and there he is as #19, but yet #87 is available. Can someone clue me in as to how this character is allowed to continue to wear #19 even though a number in the 80's is available?

When Keyshawn was with the Jets, all the 80's were taken. So they allowed him to wear 19. Since that's the number he started with, the NFL allowed him to keep it with the Bucs also.
By the way, they changed the rule this year, ALL receivers are allowed to wear numbers in 10's or 80's.

Larry Fitzgerald & Ernest Wilford are a couple receivers that will wear #s in the 10's this year.

I think it mainly for the Referees.
