Why all the negative comments toward Hagan?

I posted this in another thread but it kind of got ignored as it was on a different topic but I'm asking everyone because i just read a thread and the poster wrote have we released Derek Hagan yet? So my question is why does everyone dislike Hagan so much?

This guy was a monster in college and DOES have potential. yes i realized that ever since he's been in the NFL he has struggled with drops but just look at the last game of the year against Cincy and he played very well. When people argue about a position in the pro's and especially wide receiver they say that it takes 3 years to transform from college to the pro's and I have heard that arguement about a million times when both Chambers and Ginn came onto the scene but never have I ever heard anyone say that about Hagan. People were wanting him kicked out of town after his rookie year! This was only his 2nd season and he's only 23. He's had 2 different coordinators and 2 different systems with a qb merry go round. People act like he's been around here for years constantly dropping everything when in fact he's young and still learning meanwhile he's learning from new people every year.

We wont release Hagan. Only because we dont have any depth at WR at the moment. Hes not the finished article. Has had his chance to step up and cement his No2 spot at least and flat out hasnt done it. Nobody hates him. Thats wrong to use that word but hes underperformed when more was expected. Ginn showed promise at WR. Hagan after 2 seasons hasnt.

Many "hate" Hagan because he has not lived up to their expectations of him. Plus he was a NS draft pick. Derek came to the Dolphins as being one of the best receivers in PAC-10 history but has yet to show those kinds of skills here, or so many think he hasn't.

The fact that after 3 years in the NFL and he's not even being mentioned as a potential starter might suggest that his days in Miami are numbered.

First of all; I don't think there's any HATE for the guy. In fact, his first year most were willing to give him the benefit of the doubt because he was a rookie. But after 2 years in the league you need to be showing something. Making the transition from college to pro shouldn't have anything to do with whether or not you can catch consistently. Even if we had 50 different systems in the past 2 years - if the ball hits you in the hands and you don't hold onto it....????? There's a problem.

Still why is that everybody forgets that it takes 3 years to get into a WR's game but Hagan only gets 2 years and if some people had thier way 1 year. Fine he hasn't stepped up when he's had his chance but that's why you develop players, not just throw them out there and if he doesn't succeed cut him. That's just wasteing talent...

I completely agree ... i think with a consistant system he could become a really good player. This past season was only his 2nd year as you said already and he has never been any higher then the 3rd receiver. Now dont get me wrong, I'm not saying he's the next randy moss or anything but i really think he could become a solid contributor to our team given the chance.

You don't just forget how to catch a ball....little things such as chemistry with the qb and being used to routes and plays do, something Hagan hasn't had.

Its how you see the talent developing. Hagan should be on the upward curve and he isnt IMO. When Chambers left Hagan should have been chomping at the bit and saying to himself that the starting WR slots were his. He didnt take it. Welker and Chambers gone and he STILL didnt show up.

Plus i think our offense could be really affective if we start Wilford and Hagan (the big receivers) on the outsides, have Ginn (speed guy) in the slot, Ronnie of course in the backfield, and a TE on either side. Dont get me wrong, I'm not saying Ginn should be the #3 receiver.

Yeah but he has dropped the easiest passes which is why many people like to knock him on this board and everywhere else. He has dropped third down passes where the closest defender was five to ten yards away. The guy has inconsistent hands and that has nothing to do with your QB imo, it is something HE needs to work on.

He has improved though as his catches,td's,yards and yards per catch have all increased from rookie to sophmore year. Sure he hasn't progessed as fast as some thought but an improvement is an improvement regaurdless. For people to call for his release because we signed Kircus is pretty insane.

You are right if you think Kircus coming in makes ppl think Hagan will be released. I do think though it has nothing to do with competion at WR. Hagan just doesnt do it game in, game out. Hes not bad but not good. Chambers was considered inconsistent but Hagan brings new meaning to that term.

If last year's receivers coach is correct, Hagan's biggest problem is his lack of maturity and even suggested that he gets married to improve his focus.
