Yes, Gurley was a beast prior to the ACL injury, but the guy hasn't played football since it's happened. Even with medical clearance, there's no guarantee that he'll revert back to his pre-injury form. He only just started working on regaining lateral agility two months ago. Hell, there's not even a guarantee that he'll be fully ready to compete in pre-season. There has to be a a huge question mark as to whether he'll again be the player he was and that, to me at least, makes the pick a huge gamble. I know that no draft picks come with guarantees, but with this pick we can't even be sure we're getting the same player.

So I'm curious, why is this not a concern for so many of you?

It doesn't matter dude. He won't be there for us to draft. He'll be long gone. Gordon is the only RB that they might take but I doubt that happens too.

Ozzy rules!!

Its not if he`s going to be the same player its when... Worst case he misses the first 6 games... considering Miller`s last season, we can wait for him to be 100%...

Didn't he just clear medical check up? This isn't the first player with knee injuries to get drafted.

Because it is finheaven, where the people who thought Chad Henne was going to be a baller still post idiotic dribble about how much worse of a prospect the single game rushing record holder in college is than a guy with a busted leg.

I would be very surprised if the knee was a problem after this year. He will be fine when he is healed.
I'm curious if anyone is concerned about the suspension. Not so much about what he did, but the thought process of breaking such a basic rule. everyone knows its against the rules to sell your autograph, why even try it?
Obviously it hasn't hurt his draft stock, but dumb decisions in the real world will have real consequences.

 Who has said that? People appear to be pretty high on both RBs with many simply favoring Gurley (myself included). Keep those little "idiotic" statements to yourself, especially if your one point is a single game performance and a clear lack of understanding of modern medicine.

How can that be said with any certainty? There's a difference between a tendon being healed and a tendon being as good as it was before.

You can't say anything with any certainty when it comes to the draft. Can you say for certain that whoever you want to draft won't tear their ACL week 1? No, you can't. That doesn't mean it's likely to happen. Same goes for the potential of Gurley not recovering fully. I guess there is a very very very very remote possibility, but that doesn't mean it's likely. Welcome to the wonders of modern medicine. People seem to be stuck in the 80s when this kind of injury was a career death sentence. Hasn't been that way in at least a decade.

Yes Doogie Howser... because I didn't tear my ACL playing football? And was never the same even though I had it repaired and did physical therapy in South Miami Hospital where pros get their knees done.

Plus... it is common knowledge that an ACL takes two years to heal properly.

But I am pretty sure you know all about modern medicine because you love Todd Gurley so much. And if you think that Melvin Gordon only had one good game than you have said the most idiotic thing on this thread.

Not for nothing, but did you have the same advantages these world class athletes have? I tore my Achillies several years ago and it's never been the same, but I also know I didn't have the same resources these guys do although I was operated on by the same orthopedic surgeon that the Orlando Magic used back then. Oh I also have a FT job that doesn't allow me to rehab all day long. Not trying to be a smart a$$ but comparing apples to oranges here.

Honestly I don't expect him to be 100% in 2015, and it is normally a two year injury. However, as mentioned he doesn't need to be the workhorse this year with Miller still under contract.

No, it's not a death sentence but there is some percentage of players who do not regain their former skill level. Neither of your links provide percentages regarding regaining pre-injury abilities vs. diminished abilities; however, as we're talking about a 1st round pick, I can't say I'd be comfortable with the pick unless the odds were greatly in favor of full recovery of skills. If we're talking a 90% chance of full recovery, I'm less concerned, but if we're talking 60-40, I'd be unwilling to stake a 1st round pick on those odds.

Should have worked on your reading comprehension while you were laid up with that knee injury, because you clearly weren't focusing enough on rehab. I quite clearly said I like Gordon, but just happen to believe Gurley is superior based on his entire college career and watching them both play multiple times. That's my opinion. Don't like it (which you clearly are very, very angry about  ), I couldn't really care less, but I am open to non-dickish discussion about it, which you've already failed at with your very first post in here.

Not a doctor (yet), but have worked with orthopedic surgeons for years (and stayed at a Holiday Inn Express). Your knee was never the same? Maybe you should have worked harder. Or maybe you should have had access to the same kind of treatment and post-op care that Gurley and other pro (and soon-to-be pro) RBs. I'll take the experience of the pro football players' recovery over some Joe Schmoe's flag football injury recovery.
