I don't get the love for this guy? He started off the season with Orton as his QB who was a complete disaster (He has shown flashes in the past to at least be serviceable) and eventually got benched for Tebow who was also a terrible quarterback (amazing running back). The offense was inept all year long and the major reason for the success the Broncos was the defense! Tebow did some nice things but the offense was nothing special. In Carolina, the offense was nothing to write home about but they had one of the best running backs in the game (in his prime) along with a top 10 receiver in his prime, Steve Smith, and Delhomme was efficient but nothing special. I just don't get it. Is this the best we can find?!! And if the Broncos don't get an onside kick, or Prater doesn't make a 59 yard fg, etc etc I can go on, the Broncos don't make the playoffs and McCoy is not primed to be the next HC of the Dolphins.

I just don't get what makes him a better candidate then a guy like Mike Zimmer or even Joe Philbin who is in charge of providing an offensive game plan every week for the Packers. Anybody care to explain?

Like most guys I'm intrigued by his background from being a QB himself to being a long time assistant in Carolina. He has a decent rap with the players he's coached, and seems to be a well respected young coach.

Now I'm not crazy about his Tebow offense, but having listend to McCoy's PCs he's had I do like how he presents everything. His results may not have been there this year, but he is a smart guy.

Again, my enthusiasm (for lack of a better word) is not because he is young or because of Tebowmania but from really doing my own research into him.

I don't feel like anyone is enamored with McCoy, and I haven't heard anyone say he is a better choice than Zimmer. There just isn't much to choose from with McCoy, Philbin, and Bowles.

Why aren't they interviewing Carmichael?

I agree

I agree, it's the press conferences that turned my opinion on him. It's a risky pick but the reward could be high.

I'm not thrilled with McCoy, but he's a young guy who seems very articulate and passionate, and he's a former QB, so maybe he will understand that position a little bit better than most.

I guess really the reason I prefer him over Philbin is that when I look at Philbin, I see even less to get excited about. Guy did not call the plays and really seems to be second fiddle to Mike McCarthy there. Sure, he's been part of a winning organization, but I don't see this whole idea of making us "Packers South" as being some kind of miracle cure for the organization. The Chiefs and Broncos both tried to make themselves "Patriots West" and it failed miserably.

I guess in the end I just like the idea of a young former QB coming in to lead the team after seeing the success that guys like Gruden (both of them), Payton, and Jim Harbaugh have had.

he is young is why people are enamoured. if you go by his accomplishments he is pretty much middle of the road at best. 23 rd ranked offense gets you a head coach interview unreal.

I asked Nublar this very same question via Twitter earlier today. He made some good points but I don't understand the love affair with this guy. I would much rather pull a guy from a proven Super Bowl winning system than a gimmicky system. Philbin may not call the plays but he does most/all the game planning and really knows how to exploit mismatches. Also, Philbin is respected more around the league than McCoy. Philbin increases our chances of raiding the Packers coaching staff and if we're lucky: landing Flynn. I just think Philbin is the better option of second tier coaching options. My question now is: Who's going to run this defense!?

Mike McCarthy was in charge of the 32nd ranked offense in San Francisco when the Packers hired him as head coach. More to choosing a head coach than offensive rank.

Mc Carthy was also oc of a pretty good New Orleans team before he took that job. He was not judged on his one year. never said it was all offensive rank but you have to accomplish something not just oh he's a young guy. McCoy has potential but should not be in discussion but he is and thats just shows you the state of our franchise.

I just hope we don't hire Philbin just so we can land Flynn. Flynn will go where the money is. If we really want him, we could get him just as easily as we could with McCoy as long as the contract is to his liking

Have to keep in mind that before Denver, McCoy was a big part of the 10th ranked Panthers offense in 2008. Yes he is young, but that is not the only reason he might get the job. He is a former quarterback himself, so he knows the position well. Has coached a few quarterbacks in the NFL that have had success. I think I read in a story by Omar that McCoy has had six 3,000 yard passes under his watch in Carolina in Denver in a short span. Not saying McCoy is going to be a successful head coach, but I do think his interviews and consideration is valid. He has some good qualities about him that gives you hope he can be the next success story. Who knows though, for all we know Philbin sill get the job.

At this point, every candidate has flaws. We all got our guy based mostly on gut feeling... Its wait and see...

My thoughts exactly. It's pretty much like picking a name out of a hat. I prefer Philbin but I'm not going to be devastated if McCoy is picked. However, I don't want Bowels to be our next HC. If they want to give him a shot at DC I'll be OK with that but we need stability. This coaching carousel needs to end.

My only concern with Philbin at this point is the recent family tragedy and how he is coping with the situation. Being named Head Coach of the Miami Dolphins and a huge geographical move might be the best thing for him and his family at this time...but I'm not sure.
