Because up until 1988 the Dolphins were the only game in town. The Heat came in 88 and were not an imediate success.
1 oclock games are an advantage to no one. You people are dreaming if you think there is an advantage to play at 1 pm. You would have to triple pay free agents just to make a visit to Miami. Add to that, fans would not pay to sit and bake in the sun anymore as they did 30 friggin years ago. People are a lot more educated and with the price of going to a game the average fan is not going to shell out the cash to melt to death in the stands. Place needs a dome on it.
People in Arizona never went to afternoon game when the Cardinals played at Sun Devil stadium. Since they built the new place in 2006 with the roof and air conditioning the team has sold out every single game and that was during some piss ugly seasons too.
Other difference is players are not letting themselves be treated like slaves anymore. Would love for anyone on the board to work every day in a place that does not have air conditioning because someone wrote to your boss he or she feels you would work better. Put a dome and air conditioning on that stadium and it would be sold out every Sunday. Cardinals were and still are far worse team then the Dolphins could ever hope to be and like I said, new stadium, roof, A/C = sold out every game.
Its friggin idiotic to think Ross is an idiot because we do not have 1 Oclock games. On the contrary, he listened to the season ticket holders who said quite bluntly, have 1 Oclock games and you can kiss my season ticket money good bye. So, there you have why there are not 1Oclock games folks, not because Ross is an idiot but because the fans who actually take the jack out of their pockets instead of never going to games and moaning on message boards like it that way.
