I'm legitimately curious why people are upset about this. Indifferent? Sure. I get that...and it's closer to how I feel about it. But mad...why?

It's difficult to make a legitimate argument that a better backup could have been acquired for $6mm. Garoppolo? I'd have been a fan of that signing, but if we want a durable backup option, he's not the guy. Winston? No. Jameis Winston hasn't been a viable option in years (can anyone explain to me how his vision got worse after he had corrective eye surgery?). Wilson will make less than Jacoby Brissett made last year for the Pats, for Pete's sake.

I guess I just don't understand why some are so upset over the signing. let's see if the kid has any measure of promise left, and if he doesn't, move on. He's a scratch-off lottery ticket.

Too much money for a backup QB with such a questionable past.
Is it, though?

In terms of both market reality, as well as cap% in relation to total cap, it isn't really out of line.

Now, if you say you prefer someone who has had more success as a starter, I would prefer that too but you aren't getting starter talent for backup $.

Don’t mind him like him as a backup especially if reports are true that he grew in Denver however I think 6 million is very steep. Would be happy around 3 or so million plus incentives if he were to play.

Personally I just don't think he has what it takes to see the field correctly. It's not like we have a stellar OL now or even will this year to protect him longer than the Jets putrid OL did. He will be scrambling, making horrible decisions and we will all remember why he is who he is. Or maybe I'm wrong, but sitting behind Bo Nix and Stidham doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

Two reasons. This and he doesn’t fit the offense. He’s Mike White all over again. Exact opposite of a timing QB. Another example of square peg in a round hole.

I suspect is one reason why he was 3rd behind Stidham in Denver. They run a timing offense as well.

My point being, I feel Miami spent too much money on the backup position for someone with such a questionable history. I don’t see how Wilson’s game correlates with this offense. If Tua gets injured and Wilson has to play, I think the season would be doomed anyway. If Miami thinks that he has upside and he is a developmental project, that is still too much money invested for only one season.

Exactly. I just made the same point responding to @Mach2 before I read your post.

That's a different story.

If that's the way one feels, $1m would be too much, and might as well just forget about a FA QB, bring in a UDFA and say screw it because no backup will fit what Tua does. so none of it matters.

A mixture of several and one that's not there.
1. I don't think he is a good backup. When Tua goes down, what will he give us that other backups haven't
2. It's too expensive for a backup QB for his NFL resume
3. If he does turn it around, he's gone after one year, so our reclamation project will gain us nothing.

One thing that might be a positive is the coaching he got last year with Sean Peyton, now he gets McCoach, who seems to love molding QB's. I put the New York stench...
