Who would that have been?I agree with most of your thoughts on points 1-3. I would say on point 3 that it should be up to our HC and Frank Smith to work with ZW and adapt the offense when Tua is out to tailor it to Wilson's strengths and minimize his weaknesses. McLovin didn't or couldn't do that last year.
On point 2 a year with Sean Payton had to be a big step up after Zach's experience with the coaching and offensively challenged Jets. Wilson barely had a minute to catch his breath in his first three years with Jets, thrown in right away as a rookie and his backup status lasted about 4 plays in his third year when ARod tore his Achilles. Maybe a year with an offensive mind and no real pressure will do him good,
I think the Jets treat young QBs horribly, Look at the legacy from Geno Smith to Mark Sanchez to Darnold to Wilson. They're thrown right in, often with little skill position support or solid coaching. I live in Morris County, NJ, close to the Jets practice facility and offices and you didn't hear that Zach was a bad kid, he did get in trouble with the NY tabloids who goaded and pushed him to crap on his teammates for 2 years so I'm giving him a break on that. The NY Post has broken much tougher and more experienced people and celebrities than Zach Wilson
It looked like Zach showed the ability to make plays outside the pocket in his last year with the Jets. I remember him working with Rodgers and showing some ability to throw on the run and keep the play alive when the pocket broke down. That was a pretty small sample in the preseason and I think three or four regular season games after Rodgers got hurt but there is ability there.
I can't justify this move completely bc I had the understanding Grier was going to get a more finished and experienced QB to be the backup
