When Bill Parcells took over this team, it was so devoid of talent it was basically an expansion franchise. Look at this roster objectively. NT needs to be addressed soon, and next years draft is certainly the one to do it. OLB is a major need. JT and Porter are both nearing the end. Our ILB's are average at best, and Channing Crowder is laughable. I think we would all agree our safeties are liabilities in coverage. Thats just the starters. Good teams, teams that can compete year in and out for a playoff spot, have quality depth as well.

Offensively we need a major upgrade in talent and explosiveness at the wr position. The mindboggling thing is some on here will still claim our wr's are good as a unit. Ronnie Brown is a FA next year, and Ricky we know is retirng, so RB could become a major need as well. Ive stated it numerous times, and Ill say it one more time. Id like to see Bill Parcells get with the times a bit and draft a 1 dimenionsal, pass catching threat at the TE position. After watching our defense get shredded the 1st 3 weeks by this type of TE, I dont know what more he needs to see. The game has changed, and you cant just line up and pound on ppl every play. The Phins offense is so limited if they get a holding call, sack etc. Yet i continually watch our opponents convert 3rd and longs. We had SD in a 2nd and 18 after the Langford sack, and they got a 1st down. Do you really see our offense doing that? Oh, and just for kicks, this teams needs to be way more explosive in the return game as well.

Oh btw, we still dont know if we have a player at the most important position in football. QB.

Nice post. Agree 100%.

I think the problem is there are alot of fans who don't understand the way football works. Or sports in general perhaps. And what I mean by that is they watch every Sunday and its simple for them. If the team loses (doesn't matter who they play) then the team sucks. I mean...its really like that. I know people who watch sports and take it to that level.

Lets just say for arguments sake the Dolphins were ranked based on the talent they had on their roster. And lets say they were ranked dead last of the 32 teams. If we lost a game to the best team in the entire league...they'd vent about how the team sucks and we're a laughing stock. Well, you are what you are. If you have no talent, you won't win in this league. Last year was great...and we do have talent. Its not quite where it needs to be, but there is some talent there. Its all about the process of rebuilding. Fans in general just don't understand how it works. They see a team like the Pats and Steelers consistently winning and they don't understand why we aren't there. Not that it makes it ok, but there are a number of reasons why this team hasn't been consistently winning throughout the decade. Inconsistent quarterback play for example.

Its hard to make every fan accept the rebuilding process and understand it on top of that. And winning last year raised the expectations quicker than they should have been. There's a good chance they will struggle next year too depending on what kind of moves are made in the off-season. I don't know what else to say. I'm frustrated after every loss too. But when the dust clears, I understand what rebuilding is.

souds like the same problems wannestadt, saban and cameron had.

Well in the last decade there were 3 coaching changed Wammy, Satan, and Cammy. All 3 stayed for a short amount of time and when they were gone the new guy came in and dismattled the team and rebuild it to their liking. So in 10 years 3 rebuilding projects. A little hard to build a winner when you are doing that every few years or so.

Wannstadt, Saban and Cameron and their associated GM's, are the ones who created this mess. It took 7 years to ruin this team and it will take more than 2 offseasons to fix it.

Excellent, excellent post.

Could not agree more.

We are not the Miami Hurricane's where we're 1 or 2 players away from being BACK where we want (I realize not everyone will agree with that) but I think the thesis of ZT76's post is that there are a lot of needs: some obvious and some that will soon become obvious.

I think the strongest point (aside from needing a big bad WR) is needing an athletic, pass-catching TE that can create MISMATCHES.

I don't think one will be available by the time we draft, however.

thats what im saying, every regime keeps blaming the last. how long will the blame game go on? at some point a regime has got to step up and make things happen. wanny and saban had winning seasons like sparano. but here we sit 0-3. just seems like 7 year echo that wont stop.

I don't understand how it's not BP's fault about CC,GW,YB... if they suck so bad why did he re-sign them to huge contracts then?

You talk about a major need at RB possibly, but we don't have that now with R.Brown and we've drafted 3 RB's haven't we?

Converting on second and long or 3rd and long takes a QB that can consistently hit the open man down field. Manning tore us apart hit guys in stride 20 yards and longer down field. Rivers hit his guys in stride, in the hands 40+ yards down field. He did it to perfection where the commentators even mentioned that the WR's barely had to move their arms the ball was so well placed. Penny tries one throw down field and over throws Ginn and then not a single try again.

I'm not one to blame BP for this season I think he does a great job for the most part and it will take 3/4 years to get us close. This season has been slow to get going more because of the d/o - co-ordinaters then anything else.

this type of TE has been popular for a while now, why Miami refuses to look for one and sticks with big slugs I dont know. It goes against Parcells phillosophy, so I dont see that type of TE coming to Miami. IMO, thats a mistake. especially now that we have a young qb, he would be such a security blanket. why do you think the Falcons traded for Tony G. Parcells needs to stop living in 1980.

While I agree with you that we need more explosiveness on offense, it's not the offense that has us in a 0-3 hole, it's the defense. The secondary is WEAK. We could have/should have won the last 2 games, even the first if it weren't for fumbles. We better win next week against Buffalo, because then it's Jets, Saints, Jets, Pats until a winnable game against the Bucs. Right now we're looking at a 4 maybe 6 win season.

Absolutely brother.....and not to mention trading away draft picks every year was really stupid.
