I'm sure that there is a very good and obvious answer to this, but why can't the Tagliabu and the NFL just put their foot down, and tell the owners AND the players how it's going to be??? Like say......... "The Owners WILL give this Percentage(whatever they decided) to the players and that's that!!!"

Then tell the players......."If you don't like it then don't play, and don't make your millions upon millions of dollars, or go to Europe, or the CFL, or the Arena league and see if you get a better deal"

Then Tell the owners......."If you don't like it, then sell your team to somebody who doesn't have a problem with it"

That is what these two sides need. For somebody in the middle to tell them how it is going to be, kind of like a Judge in a court of Law. "You will pay this much or you're screwed, or you will accept this much or you're screwed"

i think they are still jockying for position and trying to get outragous deals for for thier side. i hate it very much but thats what it looks like thier still doing in this late stage...the NFL has to stay Mutual or someone will strike immidiately

the CBA is exactly why that can't happen.

and you make reference to the NFL and Tagliabue telling the players and owners what to do...........the owners ARE the NFL, Tagliabue, as commissioner of the NFL, is actually the commissoner for the owners......there really isn't any power higher than the owners.

the NFL is going to take a hit from this thing which is sad because the NFL is the biggest money making sport and they were still making more and more money each year

I say screw it let the players strike!!! They cry now because they only make X amount of MILLIONS of dollars, I really would like to see them cry if they were making ZERO because of a strike, and then just get in players from other leagues, colleges, etc.... that would be more than happy to make a fraction of what these premadonna's make.

They can, but the union doesn't have to accept. Then the teams can start over with any players not in the union. My guess is the union would disband (it takes a 50% vote). In the long run this would be bad for the NFL, but even worse for the majority of the players.

Yea, I was thinking that was probably be the case, but I just don't see these two sides EVER coming to an agreement so they need a mediator. The other thing that I don't understand is how could the Owners not Cave in this situation???? I mean if the NFL winds up going uncapped aren't the owners pretty much screwed??? They will be forced to pay waaaay more than 60% to the players or they will just simply not get any good players which in turn will make their team bad, and Decrease their revenue/profit.

The players need to realise the benefits they'll lose if there is no cba.

The owners need to realise the TV revenue they'll lose with an uncompetitve league.

If there's a classic case of Mutual Assured Destruction not working this is it.

Tagliabue works for the owners, that's why. If he dictates to the owners a deal they hate, he is out of a job. There is no such thing as an independent commissioner of any professional sports league.

IF this were the case, then the Players would say.."OK..we'll go on strike". & that is the NFL's WORST nightmare. But it's a scumbag tactic they would sink to.

How much decrease in revenue will the cut players experience? It would seem that there is no way they players wouldn't cave in. Also, I imagine most owners are in a position to never work again and maintain their lifestyle or if they want just go into another business.

Tagiabue has done a good job in my opinion, he is the guy who set the cap back in 94!? and he has made everybody in the league happy for the most part. can't say the same about UpShaw

No, it's the opposite. The owners will not be forced to pay anything. They can pay their practice squad guys $50,000 and the starting QB $100 million. They can do whatever they want.

And, in the uncapped year, teams quit paying for player health insurance and stop completely contributing to their 401K's that they were at the rate of 2:1.

Can you imagine a practice squad guy getting the crap beat out of him for 50K and no benefits?
