there's been so much talk about who we're gonna take if we stay at 1 and here's my opinion...only Chris Long makes sense as long as we're running a 3-4 defence......Lets start by who we're NOT taking at 1.....on defence....if there was a Lawrence Taylor type of OLB out there he'd be the pick, however there isn't so we're not taking an OLB....there's no ILB worth taking at 1 either so scratch that....there's no corner worth taking at 1 plus is a deep draft for corners so we can take 1 later on....no way we take a safety either so that leaves DE and DT/NT.....if we're gonna play a 3-4 then we need a NT....Glen Dorsey's not a NT so he's out of the question and don't tell me that we can play him at END....if we're gonna do that then we take Long and play him at END......there 's no NT worth taking at 1 so if we go defence Chris Long is the only player that makes any sense at 1.

Now for offence.....we're not taking a TE or a FB at 1.....we can use a guard but no way do we take a guard at 1....we can use a WR but there's not 1 worth taking at 1 so that leaves QB,RB and OT.....some people here don't think Beck is the answer, some like me are willing to give him a shot....regarless,there's no QB worth taking at 1 imo....Ryan,has as many questions as anyone else....and if we draft a QB is gonna be Flacco who we can take in round 2 or maybe even in round 3.....that leaves RB and OT.....I like Mcffaden but we have RB,Ricky,Chatman and Booker...we need a DE more than a RB......OT? Is posible but there's 2 or 3 guys that we can draft at 32 and I'm not sure that Jake Long is much better than some of those guys,,,,Sam Baker could actually be there at 32 and so can 2 or 3 more guys.....so pretty much by default the pick has to be Chris Long....of course if we move down then that's another post....lol

Ozzy rules!!

I agree with your points about Long as a quality pick, but I think Dorsey, C. Long, or J. Long make sense for us there. I don't buy all the talk about Dorsey in a 3-4.

If Dorsey is disruptive enough to be the #1 pick in the draft, then I think he's worth building the defense around. After all, Sparano made a point of saying that we are going to build the scheme around the personnel and not vice versa.

Personally, I like the idea of adding a franchise LT in J. Long and shifting Vernon back to RT.

Chris Long will not be a great 3-4 DE. He'll be good but I dont think he'll be very good. He simply doesnt have enough initial quick burst to be special as a DE. The only way we take him is as a 3-4 OLB in the Mike Vrabel mold. If we do get him Jason Taylor will be traded. I dont see us moving Porter to ILB. Taylor will be odd man out. Also it seems we are interested in some OLBs in free agency so if we do get a free agent OLB, you can write off Chris Long. I wouldnt write off Gholston and Merling just yet. Wait till the combine and if one of those two really impresses he'll move ahead of Long on our draft boards IMO

This I agree with..., assuming M.Ryan doesn't wow at the combine... If Ryan floors everyone...? Maybe Atlanta moves up...
