If Chris Long is drafted and he becomes the next Jason Taylor how the hell is that going to help us win a championship. We have had Jason Taylor for the past 10 years and we have had a total of 6 playoff games to show for it. Despite him leading the NFL in sacks in 2002 and being named DPY in 2006. Chris Long on one side and Jason Taylor on the other would be a Sack Machine? Wrong!!! 2001-2003 Jason Taylor was opposite Trace Armstrong and Adewally Ogunley and still no playoff appearences depsite setting team records in sacks. WAKE UP PEOPLE! Chris Long is a more athletic Matt Roth with a famous father. Miami has him projected as a outside linebacker a position he has played rarely in college. I do not want to invest the overall pick in a project. Besides Dan Connor may very well be available with the 32nd pick. A classic Linebacker from Penn State. We will draft Matt Ryan I am 95% certain of this. Dorsey and his injury problems will cause him to drop. Jake Long will not be selected Flozell Adams will be signed as a free agent.

We didn't not make the playoffs because of Jason taylor, lol. We weren't good teams then, that is why we didn't make the playoffs. You become good teams by drafting well and being smart with your money. Drafting Matt Ryan #1 would not be drafting smart. Gholston, both Longs, and Dorsey should be in consideration ebfore Ryan. Especially since our FO seems to really like Henne who very well could be there at #32.

I am 95% certain Ryan will not be our pick.

Do you hear what you are saying?
More athletic matt roth?
1st if Matt roth WERE more athletic would ANYONE have a problem with that?
I meana high motor guy with athletic ability sounds like a winner to me.
Also you mention that he did not play LB in college.
To me it makes his stats MORE impressive.
Think about it for a second:
a 3-4 Lineman has a primary job of occupying blokers so the LB's can make plays and rush the passer.
Considering he got over 10 sacks from that position should tell you that he not only occupied blockers but he shed them and got in the backfield. Sounds like a good skill set for a pass rushing OLB to me.

We haven't won because of Jason Taylor? Did you actually think about this before you started a thread? One star dude.

We haven't won because we haven't drafted well, and, we've had poor management of the football team, not because of Jason Taylor.

Chris Long is an amazing athlete for a 6'4" 275 pound man, he is 5 star in character, motor, intelligence, intangibles etc etc etc....

He is a perfect Bill Parcells 3-4 OLB, and will help provide the pass rush you simply must have in this league today with todays wide open passing lanes and spread offenses.

How did the Giants derail the Patriots? They rattled the trigger of Tom Brady with the pass rush.

I think you just defeated your own point.
JT may only be around a couple more years.
How bad would the offense be without him?
He is a top 5 DE/OLB.
Chris Long has all the makings to be one as well.
Who better to mentor him than JT?
That way the Dolphins have a Top 5 DE/OLB for the next 10 years.
There is NO 1 player that will get the Dolphins in the playoffs, they need to go BPA and build from the line out.

So the reason you dont like Long at the #1 pick is because we never won a championship with Jason Taylor and:

Besides Dan Connor may very well be available with the 32nd pick. A classic Linebacker from Penn State. We will draft Matt Ryan I am 95% certain of this.

So we are going to take Connor, a 230 lb MLB, and move him to OLB in a 3-4?

BRILLIANT!

Normally, 3-4 teams take college DEs as their OLBs, and OLBs as their ILBs, but you want to do the opposite.

I applaud you for being a trendsetter.

Just think about how we've beaten the Patsies in recent history when we have beat them, it was JT having a good game and getting to Brady, just like the Giants did.

Ya know, "we" have known the formula for beating the Pats for years, we just aren't always good enough to execute it.. smack Brady arouind, and he becomes mortal.

Absolutely Marty. and I'm so glad the Giants figured it out in time to derail 19-0. You could see it on Brady's face, he doesn't like getting hit.

You've got to be kidding me with this. :rolleyes2:

I know were supposed to be PC on here and welcome all opinions with open arms but come on, this is absurd.

So in your assessment, any team that has a strength on their team but don't make the playoffs makes those team strengths actually a negtative to that team and part of the problem. Absurd.

Seeing as football is a team game, you need to build a number of areas of your team to as high a level as you can. No matter how good one area is, if the others are weak those weak areas can cancel out your strong areas.

Why this even needs to be explained is insane.

Marino never won a championship so should we never look to draft a top QB again?

There goes your draft Matt Ryan argument negated by your own "what did these good players do for us" theory!

Barry Sanders never won a championship!
Obviously a top RB is not a strong piece of the puzzle to win a Super Bowl then right so why bother drafting any!

An overall bad team loses regardless of top players that may be in a few spots. They lose because they lack enough top players to make a strong and balanced team NOT because of the top players they have.

I'm not even going to touch your comment belittling the value of a top sack tandem on your defense when you could make a strong argument that the Giants DE's are most responsible for the Pats loss in the Super Bowl.

I'm all for drafting a QB, but he has to be worth the value at the pick we take him at. I don't think Ryan, or any other QB in this draft is worth the 1st overall pick, since they're doesn't seem to be a big separation in talent among the top QB prospects. One of the reasons that we're in the situation we're in is that we've overpaid for underachieving talent. Continuing that trend in this draft is not going to help us. I think we should take a DE, DT, or LT in the 1st and get a QB in the 2nd round, since their should still be quite a few top QB prospects left.

Just my $0.02

I totally agree with this point - without the pressure that the Giants defensive line put on Brady, the Giants wouldn't have stood a chance.

jason Taylor = hall of fame. If Chris Long is as good as Taylor then you don't want a Hall of Famer? Madness!

oh so you are saying you dont want another 6 to 7 time pro bowler on our team and also a defensive player of the year (DMVP). man you right, we have toooo many of those. JT isnt the problem. our problem was our FO and our drafts have sucked in the past. If we got JT ans ZT some talent to help them we would have made the playoffs. our FO made too many stupid trades (mostly for QB's who sucked) and draft picks who arent even on our team and some arent even in the NFL. we dont have anyone still on our team that is from the 2002 draft or before until you get to ZT and JT drafts that and only 1 i think from the 2003 draft other than.
